Medical Assistant II

This Medical Assistant II functions as a member of the clinical team and completes assigned daily clinical tasks to ensure smooth day to day operations in the physician practice. The Medical Assistant II serves as a mentor to other medical assistants and is responsible for training new medical assistants.

Schedule: Full Time

Essential Responsibilities / Duties:

  1. Assists Practice Manager with scheduling to ensure all providers have an assistant.
  2. Train new staff to office workflows.
  3. Own a practice workflow as assigned by the manager (e.g., pre-visit planning, workflow dashboard management, charge entry, claim management, clinical inbox management)
  4. Rooms patient and prepares the patient for the provider visit.
  5. Take vital signs as necessary. Responsible for accurate blood pressures, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, respiratory rates and entering accurately into EMR.
  6. Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc. into EMR for physical.
  7. Obtain required consents, completes required forms as needed for specific visit types.
  8. Perform in-office testing and EKGs as needed. Required to perform controls on certain in-office tests.
  9. Assist provider with in-office medical procedures.
  10. Properly label all specimens.
  11. Chaperone Providers as required.
  12. Administer vaccines and medications as ordered by provider.
  13. Responsible to follow TCM (Transitional Care Management), CCM (Chronic Care Management) and RPM (Remote Patient Monitoring) workflows if active in the practice.
  14. Stock rooms and monitors expiration dates of exam room supplies.
  15. Monitor and log medication/vaccine refrigerator temperatures.
  16. Assist with incoming calls as needed by answering, triaging, and routing telephone calls appropriately as needed.
  17. Schedule patient appointments and appropriate testing as ordered by provider upon check out from appointments or any other time as requested.
  18. Follow scheduling rules and direct schedules patient visits in other BMC practices.
  19. Review schedules (clinical pre-visit review) to ensure the provider has what the patient visit is for. Example: results, consult notes, hospital notes etc. If not available, contacts facility or other practice to obtain them.
  20. Perform outreach to select patient groups as directed for patient care and quality and then schedule specialty appointments and testing as required.
  21. Inform manager of clinical supply needs or assisting with ordering.
  22. Obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as per practice need.
  23. Performs phlebotomy including venipuncture for laboratory specimen collection and point-of-care testing in the outpatient clinic setting; properly labels and prepares specimens for transport following safety and infection control protocols
  24. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes clinical instruments and equipment used in the office in accordance with infection prevention and sterilization standards; maintains documentation as required.
  25. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience as a medical assistant, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Education from approved medical assistant program.
  • Phlebotomy certification and experience preferred
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Compensation Range: $17.07- $23.80

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
