Overview The Department of Computer Science at Boston University seeks a highly organized and experienced Academic Programs Manager to lead the coordination of academic programs, enrollment management, and advising operations across our undergraduate and graduate programs. This leadership role ensures the effective delivery of academic services in a dynamic department. Key Responsibilities Supervision of Undergraduate Advising:
- Directly supervise a team of five full-time academic advisors supporting undergraduate students.
- Manage caseload distribution, provide support during peak advising periods, and resolve escalated student issues.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.
- Foster professional development and mentorship for advising staff. Enrollment Management & Curriculum Planning.
- Lead semester planning, including course rollover, schedule creation, and classroom assignments.
- Monitor enrollment trends, manage registration logistics, and address course access issues.
- Maintain and manage course waitlists.
- Serve as the departments subject matter expert on BU Hub curriculum and act as the liaison to central academic offices.
- Coordinate semester activities such as final exam scheduling and course evaluations. Instructional Budget Planning.
- Develop and manage instructional support budgets including grader and course assistant allocations.
- Evaluate faculty instructional support needs and approve appropriate resource requests.
- Coordinate student hiring processes for graders and assistants, ensuring compliance with university HR procedures. Academic Program Development & Assessment.
- Collaborate with faculty leadership on curriculum planning and academic program initiatives.
- Oversee the annual Program Learning Outcomes Assessment process:
- Coordinate data collection and reporting with the Faculty Assessment Committee.
- Draft and submit reports via Campus Labs.
- Serve as liaison to the College and Office of the Provost on all assessment matters. Communications, Events, and Student Engagement.
- Lead departmental commencement planning and execution, including budgeting, logistics, and program design.
- Support student organizations and events with funding, coordination, and advising.
- Manage departmental communications including listservs, social media, and website updates.
- Represent the department at admissions events, open houses, and outreach activities.
- Serve as initial point of contact for prospective students and families.
Required Skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3+ years of direct relevant experience in academic administration, student advising, or higher education operations.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience, preferably in a university setting.
- Excellent project management, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment.
