Community Educator
Community Educator We are seeking a Community Educator to play a crucial
role in JFSWM\'s Refugee Community Services program, supporting New Americans as they build the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to thrive in their new communities. Position Details: Position: Community Educator Program: New American Program Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt Reports to: Community Educator Coordinator Location: Springfield, MA Salary: \$22/hr This role focuses on delivering community education and Cultural Orientation sessions, connecting clients with essential resources, and collaborating with internal teams and community partners to promote successful integration. Responsibilities: 1) Cultural Orientation and Education: -Develop and deliver comprehensive cultural orientation sessions to assist immigrants and refugees in understanding various aspects of life in the United States, including but not limited to healthcare, education, employment, and cultural norms. -Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the content of orientation sessions is accurate, relevant, and up-to-date. -Adapt orientation materials and sessions to accommodate diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. 2) Referral and Resource Navigation: -Assess client needs and provide referrals to essential community resources such as healthcare facilities, educational institutions, legal services, and social support networks. -Maintain updated knowledge of available resources and establish partnerships with community organizations to enhance the support network for immigrants and refugees. 3) Community Education and Workshops: -Design and deliver educational workshops on topics including financial literacy, housing rights and responsibilities, cultural adjustment, social integration, legal rights and responsibilities, and community resources and services. -Collaborate with local stakeholders including schools, community centers, and cultural groups to facilitate educational workshops that address important essential topics and issues. 4) Capacity Building, Documentation, and Reporting: -Maintain accurate records of educational sessions, client interactions, and referrals made, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations. -Prepare reports documenting program activities, outcomes, and challenges. -Build and strengthen partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and local agencies to expand program reach and impact. -Contribute to the development and implementation of new programs based on emerging client needs and community feedback. Qualifications: -Bachelor\'s degree in social work, education, public health, international relations, or a related field. -Fluent in English, proficiency in at least one other language preferred. -Experience working with diverse populations, particularly refugees or immigrants, and sensitivity to cultural differences. -Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. -Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. -Valid driver\'s license with a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle. -Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. -Proficiency in basic computer applications and willingness to learn new software programs.
