We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a small nonprofit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts. In this role, you will lead and manage all accounting and financial operations for the organization, combining strategic oversight with hands-on execution. This position offers the opportunity to play a vital role in shaping the financial health of the organization while working fully on-site.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee and manage the organization’s accounting and finance functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Perform daily accounting tasks, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and maintaining the general ledger.
• Lead financial planning activities such as budgeting, forecasting, and analysis to support organizational goals.
• Prepare and deliver financial reports, providing insights and recommendations to key stakeholders.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Handle grants management, including tracking, reporting, and compliance.
• Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization’s mission and long-term objectives.
• Maintain proper document control, scanning, and organization of financial records.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.• Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit accounting, with the ability to work independently in a stand-alone role.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and nonprofit regulations.
• Proficiency in document control and management practices, including scanning and organizing financial records.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and grants management.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software and tools, including 10-key operations.
