GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Program Coordinator for Gender and Sexuality is expected to be an active and visible member of the MCLA Campus Community. This individual will provide support, mentorship, guidance, for all students. Additionally, this individual will have a primary focus on supporting, mentoring and guiding female identifying students and students who identify within the LGBTQ+ community. The program coordinator will be charged with programing for LGBTQ+, gender equity, and women's rights. This position contributes to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work within the division of Student Affairs.

This is a 12-month, live-on position which requires night and weekend responsibilities including supporting the staff on-call rotation for Residence Life & Housing. This position is a mandated reporter.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Assistant Director for Student Engagement in Student Affairs

SUPERVISION GIVEN: Student employees as needed.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Coordinator

  • Create and implement programs and initiatives that promote increased awareness around women's rights and gender equality.
  • Develops and implements college-wide awareness programs to educate the campus community about LGBTQ+ identities.
  • Employs a non-clinical case management lens to support LGBTQ+ students through outreach and development of ongoing relationships with students. Assess student needs, connect them to campus support networks, and provide guidance and support.
  • Plans, develops and coordinates cross campus programming around issues of gender equity, LGBTQ+ and women's related issues for the students and campus community.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures that affirm human dignity, and cultural pluralism across campus.
  • Provide operational leadership and assistance for the coordination of LGBTQ+, multicultural special programming, including but not limited to Black History Month, Women's History Month, Pride Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Asian Awareness Month, Lavender Graduation and Kente Stole Ceremony.
  • Advance the work of all affinity centers to support student populations who have been historically disadvantaged and oppressed in higher education.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of student staff. Provide leadership and oversight for student staff including: hiring, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating student staff.
  • Produces publications as needed to promote programs and services for affinity centers.
  • Utilizes social media platforms for promotion, awareness, visibility, education, and evaluation.

Residence Life and Housing

  • Serve in a rotating, on-call schedule; responding to calls outside of traditional working hours for a range of issues related to college student wellbeing.
  • Attend weekly department meetings.
  • Facilitate trainings and participate in professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed in the scope of related work duties.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing programs that support LGBTQ+ students from an intersectional framework.
  • Knowledge and advocacy experience relative to concerns and issues of LGBTQIA+ people and the intersections of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identification.
  • Demonstrated experience in, and an ongoing commitment to, working effectively with and providing programing and education related to marginalized communities: including Black, Indigenous, People of Color, underrepresented religious groups; new immigrant populations; people with disabilities and disabled communities; women; LGBTQIA+.
  • Evidence of ability to develop, coordinate and manage programs
  • Evidence of fiscal stewardship
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse campus community members, including students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at various levels of completion, with the ability to work independently as well as within a diverse team. Demonstrated commitment to the value of co-curricular life in a liberal arts education.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage difficult situations.
  • Ability to use computer software including Microsoft Office, desktop publishing, social media and website management.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule to accommodate supervision of evening and weekend programs as needed and as part of the on-call rotation

Additional Information:

This is a full time, permanent, benefitted position within the APA bargaining unit. Salary for this position is $44,000-$46,000/Year.

Employee Benefits:

Health Insurance: MCLA offers a variety of HMO, POS, and PPO-type health insurance plans for eligible employees. Coverage is effective on the 1st of the month following the date of hire. Exceptions to employees hired on the 1st of the month, coverage is effective immediately.

Retirement: The MA State Employee Retirement System provides eligible employees with a retirement pension following a 10-year vesting period. In lieu of the retirement pension, eligible employees may select the Optional Retirement Plan with a maximum 5% employer matching contribution.
Tuition Waivers & Discounts: eligible employees, including spouses and dependent children, receive reduced tuition at MA state colleges, community colleges, and universities.

Paid Time Off: employees receive 12 paid holidays and generous vacation, personal, and sick leave benefits.
