General Description: The purpose of a school social worker is to provide critical social/emotional support and intervention so that each student can access his/her education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement school, district and department policies.

Collaborate with the team on curriculum and students needs.

Create and manage effective communication with parents, community based organizations, and universities.

Share in preparation of individualized education plans, as it relates to mental health goals of students.

Collaborates in the development of behavioral intervention plans.

Provide home based assessments as indicated by need of student, school or district.

Provide counseling, case management and crisis intervention as indicated by need of the student, teacher or district.

Maintain professional competencies in areas of responsibilities.

Maintain a student database.

Participate in student based grade level, administrative, and discipline meetings.

Responsible for investigating and filling 51A reports.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Participate in the pre- referral process of special education.

Commit to increasing the positive climate between and amongst peers.

Seek professional development.

Qualifications:

Meets the standards of highly qualified as outlined by federal mandate, No Child Left Behind.

Hold a Masters degree in related field;

Certification in School Social Work.

Minimum of 2 years experience in an elementary school setting.

High interest / experience with the social / emotional / academic needs of urban children.

LCSW required.
