About Boston Prep
Boston Prep is a college-preparatory charter public district, made up of a single-site middle and high school. In 2025-2026, our community will include 700 students in grades 6-12, nearly 500 alumni, over 150 faculty members, and hundreds of families. The majority of our students and families reside in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. As Dean of Instructional Supports & Services Middle School (maternity coverage), key responsibilities include:
You believe in creating an educational experience where students are able to see themselves reflected in the content of your class.
Leadership & Management
- Manage, develop, and evaluate an exceptional team of special education teachers and paraprofessionals for students with disabilities in an inclusion and partial inclusion setting
- Meet regularly with special educators, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to collaborate care for students and to provide coaching and support
- Regularly observe special educators and paraprofessionals
- Provide formal and informal written feedback of instruction, pull-out and push-in support sessions, co-teaching partnerships and materials, accommodations and modifications, and IEP and progress notes feedback and edits
- Collaborate with the Middle School Leadership Team, content Department Chairs, and the Culture Team to ensure students are successful academically and behaviorally within the school setting
- Collaborate with the Culture team and coordinate support for students with disabilities who are placed on a long term suspension or expulsion, including creating their educational plan, service delivery, weekly status reports to families and staff, and re-entry meetings.
- Meet regularly with the Middle School Leadership Team to plan weekly professional development and implement whole staff initiatives
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students IEPs and 504 plans are being implemented
- Oversee all aspects of the partial inclusion program, including scheduling, curriculum development, and instructional practices, in partnership with the Senior Director of Special Education and Related Services, 6-12
- Coordinate and lead professional development in partnership with the Senior Director of Special Education and Related Services, 6-12
- Communicate the philosophy that all students, regardless of disability should be given the opportunity to succeed at the same level as their peers and should be fully expected to do so
Compliance & Accountability
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for students with disabilities in the inclusion and partial inclusion settings
- Help to manage the pre-referral and referral process for students not yet identified as having a disability
- Help to coordinate evaluations necessary for initial or re-evaluations for special education services
- Write or collaborate on writing and editing of IEPs and 504 plans for students who receive support services
- Chair Team meetings and train others on facilitation practices, in partnership with the Compliance Manager
- Oversee provision of services for all students with disabilities
- Partner with the Middle School Leadership Team to ensure all state and district testing accommodations and other requirements are met for students with disabilities
Partnering with Students and Families
- Communicating frequently with students, families, and school leaders around academic and behavioral progress
- Attending occasional after-school events

- Assuming extracurricular responsibilities, if desired

- Actively engaging in ones learning; seeking and acting on feedback regularly
- Actively pursuing professional development, inside and outside of the school
- Collaborating with other teachers and school leaders to advance the schools mission
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor's Degree with Masters preferred
- Massachusetts licensure in Special Education, teaching or administrator, servicing students in middle and secondary grades is required grades 6-12
Physical Demands and Work Environmental Factors:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Capacity to use a computer and other classroom technology.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is annualized at $110,722 - 114,737 (for the estimated 5 month contract $46,314 - $47,807). Final compensation will be based on years of experience. More specific compensation information can be shared upon request.
Length of Contract
This role is a temporary role to cover a maternity leave with an estimated length of 20 weeks. The assignment may be extended or renewed based on organizational needs and performance.
