Position Description

The Churchman laboratory focuses on understanding transcription and mRNA processing regulation using high-resolution genomic techniques. We are seeking an individual as a Research Assistant to conduct experimental research in modern molecular genetics in mammalian cell cultures and yeast. In addition, the individual will perform all lab management duties, including maintaining supplies, preparing common lab reagents, and maintaining lab organization. The individual will be responsible for working with lab members and subcontractors to ensure that the labs are highly functioning workplaces. The majority of the individual's duties will lie in conducting research projects at a high level in collaboration with other lab members. This is an entry level, research assistant position that will require oversight from lab members or direct supervision from the PI. The position would be ideal for a pre-graduate student with an interest in genomics, genetics and/or molecular biology. For more information regarding research in the Churchman lab, please see:

Basic Qualifications

At least one-year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelors degree preferred.
  • A strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular biology, and/or genetics is needed, including at least one year of experience on a lab-based research project, either as an undergraduate thesis or post-graduate work. Additional research experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated abilities in basic laboratory techniques helpful, but not required.
  • Exposure to applicable computer technologies, including specific software applications, may be required.
  • Appropriate communications skills required.
  • Laboratory experience in genetics, molecular biology, or biochemistry is ideal.
  • Particularly relevant laboratory experience would include: (i) construction of genomic libraries for largescale DNA sequencing; (ii) real-time PCR; (iii) DNA/RNA extraction and analysis; (iv) molecular cloning; (v) immunoprecipitation, (vi) bioinformatics and (vii) yeast strain construction (viii) mammalian cell culture and genome editing.
  • Familiarity with advanced laboratory techniques and principles of molecular biology is desired.
  • Additional qualifications include: excellent written and oral communication abilities; computer proficiency; and, strong organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and the ability to work in teams in a fast- paced, dynamic environment.

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. Work Format Details

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
