Senior Analyst, Prospect Research
Overview
The Senior Analyst, Prospect Research provides prospect research, strategy and support for members of the Division of Philanthropy, a large fundraising office that raises over $400M annually in support of cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Senior Analyst focuses on identifying new prospects through donor and patient screenings as well as other methods to build the individual giving pipeline. Resonsible for creating concise, accurate, and timely research products. This position reports to Associate Director, Prospect Research.
This position's work location is fully remote with occasional time on-campus in Brookline, MA . T he selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

Responsibilities
- Strategic Prospect Management: Duties may include but are not limited to: leading regular meetings with internal clients to review fundraising priorities, anticipate research needs, and develop strategies for key prospects; leading comprehensive annual portfolio review for assigned Principal and Major gift officer(s); and making strategic assignment recommendations based on department guidelines, gift officer portfolio needs, and the Institute’s priorities.
- Research Delivery and Gift Capacity Assessment: Duties may include, but are not limited to, translating research requests and projects into targeted and actionable deliverables; communicating clearly with clients about expected outcome and timeline; creating concise, accurate, and timely research products using biographical information, financial data, news, and philanthropic history, while adhering to professional standards such as an individual's fundamental right to privacy and protecting the confidential information of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Use information found to estimate the giving capacity of individual prospects; and assisting with occasional research for other Philanthropy partners, including Dana-Farber's President and Chief Philanthropy Officer, and general prospect identification.
- Prospect Identification: Duties may include but are not limited to: identifying prospects for major, principal, and transformational gift pipelines using data mining and other prospecting techniques; foundation prospect lists for Foundation Relations and Corporate Partnerships teams; identifying new leads through monitoring of business and philanthropy news.
- Professional Development: Continuously build on fundraising and prospect research knowledge and skills by reading relevant publications; participating in internal/external trainings and workshops; and exploring new products and tools and exchanging ideas and information with teammates.
- Other Duties as Assigned: May include screening and monitoring prospects for due diligence concerns; identifying potential donors for specific priorities/initiatives tracking and disseminating news and information about Dana-Farber, advances in cancer research and treatment, and top donors and prospects; and participating in fundraising strategy meetings, when appropriate.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum Experience:
3 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Communication: Superior writing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports and briefs for senior leadership.
- Research & Analysis: Strong prospecting abilities, specifically for corporate clients. Superior analytical skills and capable of interpreting complex documents, including corporate proxy statements and insider stock filings.
- Customer Service: Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with peers, leadership, and external contacts.
- Organizational: Ability to be self-directed and work independently as well as part of a team. Superior organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple clients and to meet deadlines.
- Judgement: Ability to exercise judgement, maintain confidentiality, and act with discretion when working among DFCI staff, patients, prospects, and donors.
- Creative Thinking: Ability to be curious, persistent, and apply creative thinking skills when following possible trails for prospect information.
- Computer Literacy: Superior skills in Microsoft applications; expertise in broad range of search techniques; knowledge of prospect research resources such as iWave, Lexis-Nexis for Development Professionals, Foundation Directory, Hoover's, and Relationship Science; familiarity with reporting tools; expertise with corporate research and data mining is a plus.
Pay Transparency Statement
The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
Salary: $80,104
