Operator
The Operator II is responsible for advanced handling, sorting, and processing ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This is a key role in our daily operations and requires the operation of loaders, outdoor forklifts and other heavy equipment with high attention to detail and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and sort ferrous and non-ferrous metals using visual inspection and handheld tools.
- Assist with non-ferrous department operations, including cutting, sorting and upgrading material.
- Assist with baling operations, including feeding material, clearing jams, and staging finished product.
- Assist with operating downstream and other heavy machinery.
- Operate forklifts, balers, shears, and other machinery to process materials.
- Identify and remove any non-recyclable or hazardous material.
- Maintain consistent pace and accuracy.
- Assist with general labor tasks as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area.
- MA 2C & 1C License is required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of metal types and characteristics.
- High attention to detail.
- Good hand-eye coordination and stamina for repetitive tasks.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.
- Forklift certification preferred.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Requires standing for long periods of time, walking on uneven ground, bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 lbs, operating machinery and tools with hands.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
