Maintenance mechanic
Bourne Housing Authority, established in 1965, is dedicated to providing and maintaining affordable, safe, and decent housing for low and moderate income individuals and families in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 121B. Operating under the guidance of a five-member Board of Commissioners and regulatory agencies including the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development and HUD, the Authority manages properties for senior citizens, families, and people with special needs across Bourne, Pocasset, and Buzzards Bay. As part of our commitment to supporting the well-being and economic self-sufficiency of our residents, we are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. The Maintenance Mechanic will play a critical role in ensuring that our properties are maintained at the highest standards of safety, functionality, and cleanliness. This position involves performing routine and emergency repairs, conducting preventive maintenance, and collaborating with other staff to address the diverse needs of our housing facilities. Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to ensure tenant safety and satisfaction.
- Conduct regular inspections of properties to identify and resolve maintenance issues proactively.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and services as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and housing authority policies during maintenance activities.
- Assist in preparing units for new tenants, including cleaning and minor repairs to ensure move-in readiness.
- Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives by maintaining equipment and recommending improvements.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic or similar role in property management or housing authority settings.
- Strong knowledge of general building systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
- Ability to diagnose and effectively troubleshoot equipment and infrastructure problems.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and ability to work safely with tools and machinery.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed maintenance records.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, and external contractors.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
- Valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Flexibility to respond to emergency maintenance requests outside of regular working hours.
