Cataldo Ambulance Service is seeking an experienced Mechanic to assist in the leading our Fleet Services Division

The Fleet Services Manager is a qualified and experienced mechanic that assists with the leadership of preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs for the company. Proactively managing repairs needed for diesel and gas vehicles, stretchers, generators, and other equipment maintained by Fleet Services. This position will provide supervision of Fleet staff and is a hands-on manager that assists in establishing and maintaining a safe environment, and efficient and productive work practices.

Cataldo Ambulance service is a 24/7 continuous operation, and the work schedule may include working evening, nights, weekends, or holidays to support the operation and subject to recall for emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures the timely and efficient management of maintenance and mechanical repairs for the Cataldo Fleet.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on company fleet vehicles (diesel and gas) including wheelchair vans, and ambulances for both diesel and gasoline. Maintenance and repair of stretchers, generators, and other equipment maintained by Fleet Services
  • Ensures fleet is performing preventative maintenance in a timely manner to reduce breakdowns and costs.
  • Laison between fleet services, the fleet director and operational managers regarding concerns, and proactively facilitating solutions with services or equipment.
  • Ensuring timely notification to operations or facilities of any equipment that needs to be re-stocked or replaced.
  • Assist with leadership, guidance and direction for fleet staff. Creating and maintaining reports and communicating with other departments to ensure clear communication and flow of information.

  • Maintaining a pleasant and professional work environment is being promoted between fleet staff, other departments, internal and external customers and vendors.
  • Proactively exploring opportunities to add value, time efficiencies and increase productivity.
  • Evaluates needs of the department, researching solutions and presenting recommendations for financial and departmental consideration.
  • Managing employee scheduling and coverage.
  • Participates in the hiring process, promotions, and progressive disciplinary action.
  • Participates in and assists in the performance evaluation process.
  • Ensure newly hired staff receive proper training and meet compliance and actively mentors current fleet technicians.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, company safety requirements and standards.
  • Assist in keeping vehicle locations and moves updated on vehicle status board
  • Completes Quality Control review for vehicles after scheduled maintenance or repairs
  • Perform roadside repairs and or vehicles inspections outside of the fleet maintenance locations
  • Reviews and perform repairs and service to ferno products as applicable.
  • Fleet manager will act as alternative on the company safety committee and/or the Massachusetts ambulance association.
  • Assist with snow removal on a rotation with other fleet staff
  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
  • Must maintain a reliable attendance record
  • Completes other duties as requested and assigned

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • BA/BS preferred or equivalent experience

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Establish and maintain air conditioning certification through the Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MAS) or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
  • Maintain Ferno Cot Care Certification
  • Certification as an Ambulance Technician preferred
  • Management Certification through the Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification Commission is highly desired

Experience:

  • Four or more years of increasingly responsible mechanical maintenance and automotive experience (diesel or heavy equipment also preferred).
  • Three or more years of Supervisory or lead experience in an automotive maintenance and repair and/or vehicular fleet operations
    • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent
  • Working knowledge of repair garage safety
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and skills associated with Emergency Services, vehicles and equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of gas and diesel vehicles and Ford Transmissions, E350, E450 trucks with 4.6, 6.0 and motors preferred.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret data
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion at all times

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • Ability to meet the essential duties and physical, mental and sensory requirements of the position at all times.
  • Comply with UDS drug screening at any and all times
  • Satisfactory background check and MA CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), verification required annually.

  • Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, verification required annually.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met and maintained by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This job requires:

  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50 pounds with assistance and without difficulty; occasionally lift/move up to 100 lbs with mechanical aids (pallets, jacks).
  • Ability to use hands and fingers with dexterity in the handling of objects, manual dexterity to grasp, reach, touch, and handle various diagnostic tools and mechanical controls.
  • Ability to use arms to reach, push, pull in the handling of office and mechanical equipment, tools and/or controls.
  • Ability to talk, hear and communicate effectively.

  • Ability to continuously walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb onto equipment or elevated platforms and alternate as necessary.
  • Ability to bend, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and ascend/descend stairs as necessary
  • Ability to occasionally work in low light and confined spaces
  • Vision abilities must include ability to use close and distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Hearing abilities must include ability to safely navigate and communicate around large commercial trucks.
  • Ability to work within a mobile environment including gas and diesel vehicles.

  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments with exposure to heights, fumes, grease, and loud noises.

This job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry conditions.
