Summary This vacancy is for a GA-0080-12, Security Specialist (Port) located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Sector Boston, Contingency Planning and Force Readiness Staff in Boston, Massachusetts. Responsibilities You will serve as a Security Specialist (Port) and be responsible for preparing and validating plans for the effective and efficient response to all port safety and security contingencies for which the Coast Guard and community will respond. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Analyzing and resolving difficult and complex port, vessel, and facility safety/security problems. Developing and managing port, vessel, and facility safety/security contingency plans and annexes. Reviewing federal, state, and local emergency response plans to determine level of preparedness and to determine the extent of planning needed at all levels. Coordinating with Port Safety Committee, Harbor Safety Committee, or other subcommittees, and Cast Guard District and Area Planning agents to establish the proper level of participation in port security plan development and exercises. Planning and coordinating periodic meetings with port stakeholders, other government agencies, and maritime industry personnel regarding port safety and security policies. Developing, coordinating, and participating in complex port, vessel, facility, and other security exercises, such as exercises covering maritime entities with differing security requirements or variations in ability to fund security system implementation. Participating as an observer, controller, and evaluator, analyzing data and results, and recommending appropriate remedial actions. Projecting funding needs for planning and exercise activities. Qualifications To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Investigating, analyzing, and recommending solutions to a variety of unusual security problems, questions, or conditions. Establishing and managing security criteria, to ensure effective and efficient response to security issues. Participating in practice safety and security exercises to enhance preparedness. Utilizing federal, state, and local security preparedness guidelines, in order to plan proper response to incidents.
