Traveling Bookseller & Marketing Assistant

We are seeking a motivated, friendly, and highly organized individual to represent our small, radical publishing company at book events and to support our marketing and publicity efforts. This role is ideal for someone who is outgoing, enjoys traveling and engaging with readers, and has a strong interest in global politics--particularly the Middle East. The successful candidate will be responsible, self-directed, and comfortable completing tasks with minimal supervision, while also collaborating closely with our team.

Responsibilities

• Travel to book fairs, festivals, and conferences to represent the company and sell books
• Assist the marketing director in planning and executing author tours
• Pitch media outlets and submit titles for review
• Meet with authors and creators to develop promotional strategies
• Create and implement marketing plans for titles across genres
• Organize, host, moderate or attend author events
• Work both remotely and in-office in Northampton, Massachusetts

Requirements

• 3+ years of marketing, retail or bookselling experience
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication
• Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, Mailchimp, Canva and Gmail (or similar platforms)
• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
• Organized and responsible with minimal supervision
• Availability to travel domestically for events
• Ability to stand for extended periods; regularly lift up to 40 lbs; and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders, bending, crouching, and kneeling
• Flexible schedule, with availability for evenings and weekends
• Access to a personal vehicle for local travel
• Familiarity with literary media outlets and book reviewers
• Residence within 45 minutes of Northampton, Massachusetts

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Interlink Publishing and attendance at our events
• Familiarity with SWANA politics and history
• Active interest in books across genres
• Experience in marketing or publicity
• Ability to merchandise and handsell titles
• Ability to speak Arabic
