Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and technical Materials Planner to manage the flow of components through our manufacturing process. In this role, you will be the bridge between Engineering, the Stockroom, and Production. You will be responsible for technical BOM analysis, weekly planning, and inventory accuracy to ensure our assembly teams have exactly what they need before a build begins.
Key Responsibilities:
Materials Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain weekly and long-range materials plans to ensure 100% alignment with the master production schedule.
- Review Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical drawings to accurately determine material needs for complex production builds.
- Coordinate with internal Engineering teams on BOMs and shop drawings to ensure the planning system reflects the most current technical specifications.
- Proactively ensure all materials are ordered (via Procurement) and delivered to the floor ahead of scheduled assembly builds.
Inventory Control & Stockroom Management:
- Manage all stockroom material movement and transactions, ensuring every part is accounted for from receiving to the production line.
- Conduct regular inventory cycle counts and perform system updates in the ERP to maintain high data integrity.
- Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies, making recommendations for process improvements to reduce shrinkage or data errors.
Vendor & Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for communicating with vendors regarding delivery schedules and quality requirements (expediting and status tracking).
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Sales to provide updates on material availability and lead-time impacts.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, recommending ways to streamline material flow and reduce lead times.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in Materials Planning, Inventory Control, or Production Support in a manufacturing environment (Lighting, Electronics, or Aerospace preferred).
- Technical Proficiency: Strong ability to read BOMs and technical drawings. Proficiency in Quickbooks, Salesforce, or similar ERP/MRP systems is highly desirable.
- Analytical Skills: Intermediate to advanced Excel skills for tracking plans and managing inventory data.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; comfortable acting as a liaison between Engineering, the shop floor, and external suppliers.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Physical Requirement: Must be comfortable working on-site and managing material movement within a stockroom/warehouse environment.
