SQL Server Database Administrator
Kforce has a client that is seeking a SQL Server Database Administrator in Boston, MA. Summary: We are seeking a hands-on SQL Server Database Administrator to support a high-volume production environment. This role will play a key part in maintaining, optimizing, and scaling database performance as the current DBA prepares for retirement, offering strong ownership and long-term impact. This position focuses on database administration, backend performance, and cloud-hosted environments. Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across production and non-production environments
- Monitor and optimize performance in a high-traffic environment (millions of transactions per hour)
- Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks, and query performance issues
- Troubleshoot database and backend application performance challenges
- Manage database hosting, capacity planning, and scalability
- Support cloud-hosted environments and performance tuning initiatives
- Implement backup, recovery, and high availability solutions
- Ensure database security, reliability, and best practices
- Participate in knowledge transfer and documentation for DBA transition
- 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA
- Experience supporting high-volume, high-availability production environments
- Experience with cloud hosting and database performance scaling
- Experience with large-scale transaction environments (3-4M+ hits/hour)
- Experience supporting application teams in performance troubleshooting
- Strong expertise in SQL Server administration and performance tuning
- Strong understanding of backend application interactions with databases
- Familiarity with monitoring and performance tools
- Proven ability to troubleshoot blocking, concurrency, and performance issues
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across technical teams
