(Senior) Embedded Software Engineer

We’re looking for an exceptional Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team and help build the core IoT technology behind Laminar's platform. Since we are a small team, we’re constantly picking up new challenges and really value engineers who can spot a problem and just get it done. You’ll play a key role in scaling our sensing and edge compute systems used by some of the world’s largest manufacturers. This is a unique opportunity to shape how critical industrial data is captured and used in real-time—while driving measurable impact on sustainability, water conservation, and energy efficiency at global scale. We’re looking for hands-on builders who thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy solving tough technical problems, and want their work to have lasting real-world impact. Title and scope will depend on experience.

What You Will Do

• Firmware Development : Write reliable and efficient embedded C/C++ code for our in-line sensing and edge compute devices deployed in industrial environments
• Protocol Integration : Implement and support industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet to interface with PLCs and control systems.
• RTOS Implementation : Use real-time operating systems like Zephyr to manage timing-sensitive operations and ensure deterministic system behavior.
• Security Engineering : Build and design secure firmware and communication pipelines, including encryption, secure boot, and OTA update frameworks.
• Cross-Team Collaboration : Work closely with hardware, software, and data teams to deliver production-ready systems.
• Testing & Validation : Contribute to system-level testing, debugging, and validation in both simulated and real-world environments.
• Field Support : Help with diagnostics, debugging, and support for devices deployed in customer environments.
• Documentation : Write and maintain technical documentation for embedded designs, protocols, and interfaces.

About You

• Proven ability to consistently deliver high volumes of robust, production-quality software efficiently within complex systems, or demonstrated potential to operate at this level.
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Experience developing embedded software in C/C++
• Experienced with microcontrollers and low-level I/O
• Experienced with real-time operating systems like Zephyr
• Proficient in Python for development tasks, scripting, or test tooling
• Strong grasp of object-oriented design principles (e.g. encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism)
• Exposure to RTOS environments (Zephyr preferred)
• Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced team environment/product iteration cycle
• Motivated, driven, startup founder mindset, desire to drive positive change in the world
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

$115,000 - $173,000 a year

Our pay ranges are established per Pave Compensation Software. We’re also proud to offer equity in our fast-growing startup and one of the most comprehensive benefits packages among startups at our stage. Our Interview Process

1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)

2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)

3. On-site interview, including short tour of GTL, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder's ahead of their Founder's Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.

4. Finalists for Full-Time positions will have a Founder’s Interview in-person

If an Offer Letter is extended, a Background check is conducted
