Job Description

The Grinder Operator sets up and operates grinding equipment to produce high-quality metal, aluminum, and plastic parts according to specifications. This role focuses on centerless grinding, accurate measurement, and careful inspection to ensure products meet dimensional and quality requirements while minimizing scrap.

Responsibilities

  • Set up grinding machines and related equipment to run the grinding process for the production team.
  • Perform centerless grinding on metal, aluminum, and plastic parts in accordance with job specifications.
  • Measure parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Read and follow blueprints and work instructions to ensure each step of the process is completed correctly.
  • Monitor parts throughout the grinding process to identify issues early and prevent scrap.
  • Inspect finished parts to confirm they meet dimensional and quality standards.
  • Deburr parts and perform basic finishing operations as needed.
  • Operate machines safely and efficiently in a production environment.
  • Assist with machine setup and changeovers to support production requirements.
  • Work on assembly or assembly line tasks related to the grinding and production process as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures.
  • Communicate any equipment, quality, or process issues to the appropriate personnel.

Essential Skills

  • Prior manufacturing experience in a production or machine shop environment.
  • Hands-on experience using micrometers to measure parts accurately.
  • Ability to use calipers and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions.
  • Experience operating grinding equipment, including centerless grinders.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to follow step-by-step processes.
  • Basic math skills, including understanding of measurements and tolerances, with the ability to pass a math skills assessment.
  • Ability to verify dimensions of parts and ensure they meet specified requirements.
  • Experience with machine operation, including setup and operation of production machinery.
  • Capability to identify defects or process issues and take corrective action to avoid scrap.
  • Comfort working with metal, aluminum, and plastic parts in a manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with deburring and basic finishing of machined or ground parts.
  • Experience in machine shop or production environments involving grinding, machining, or assembly.
  • Familiarity with assembly line or assembly production work.
  • Experience setting up machines for different jobs or production runs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and machine shop environment working with metal, aluminum, and plastic parts. You will operate grinding machines and other production equipment, using precision measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers throughout your shift. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the first shift, and 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. for the second shift, with a 15% shift differential for second shift. The environment is production-oriented, with standing, moving between machines, and handling parts as part of the daily work, while following established safety procedures and practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woburn, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
