Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, we are a growing startup of about 15 employees. As a key member of our small and dynamic team, you'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our technology and shape the future of both our company and the field of fusion energy.

What you'll do:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and collaborate on:

  • Developing our software platform to optimize the design of targets, detectors, and beamlines utilizing artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

  • Participating in experimental operations at our Cambridge site and at beamline facilities worldwide, collaborating with engineers and scientists on experiment design and execution.

  • Designing and implementing high-performance computing systems for complex scientific applications.

  • Creating robust test frameworks and CI/CD pipelines for mission-critical systems.

  • Collaborating with mechanical and electrical engineers to develop and improve system interfaces.

  • Contributing to open-source scientific computing tools.

  • Implementing and refining data processing and analysis pipelines.

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of full-time software development experience.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python and C++.

  • Experience with high-performance computing or distributed systems.

  • Experience with version control systems and testing frameworks.

  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of physics and chemistry with at least a first-year college level of proficiency.

  • Thoughtful collaboration and cross-functional communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science.

  • Experience with scientific computing or numerical analysis.

  • Experience with data acquisition and control.

  • Background in optimization algorithms or machine learning.

  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP).

  • Experience with MATLAB, R, or other scientific computing platforms.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools.

Details & Logistics:

  • This is a full-time, onsite role working from our facility in Cambridge, MA. Preference will be given to candidates already living in the Greater Boston area.

  • Travel (including international) for several weeks per year is required.

  • Our benefits package includes health & dental insurance, retirement savings with company contribution, stock options, paid time off, and 11 company holidays.

  • The salary range for this role is $100K to $150K. This range represents the minimum and maximum base compensation Acceleron Fusion reasonably expects to pay for this position. The specific salary offered will be determined based on relevant factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location. Our interview process:

  1. Initial video call with recruiter (30min)

  2. Technical video call with members of our engineering team (45min)

  3. Online coding assessment (30-60min)
