Development Coordinator, Events & Community Fundraising
The Children’s Room is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone. We provide free grief support services to families with children and teens ages 3½–18 who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. Our services are offered at our Arlington center, in schools and community settings, and virtually. Programs include peer support groups, parent groups, teen programming, family events, and professional training for educators and clinicians. Because grief support should be accessible to all, TCR offers all programs free of charge. About the role - Development Coordinator, Events & Community Fundraising
The majority of TCR’s revenue comes from individual giving, events, and community-based fundraising. Signature events like our Annual Breakfast and Fall 5K/walk/community event raise critical funds while deepening donor and partner connections to our mission. The Development Coordinator, Events & Community Fundraising, is essential to growing this support. By managing mission-centered events, peer-to-peer campaigns, and corporate sponsorships, this role ensures TCR’s sustained impact. The Development Coordinator reports to the Development Director. Your responsibilities will include:
- Event Planning and Fundraising
- Coordinate the logistics for TCR’s signature events, including the Annual Breakfast and Fall 5K/walk/community event, with a focus on increasing registrations and participant engagement.
- Organize event timelines, volunteer schedules, and vendor communications to ensure events are professional and mission-centered.
- Support the Development and Marketing teams by executing event communications and promotional materials.
- Manage event registration systems and guest lists to ensure accurate data for post-event follow-up.
- Community Fundraising Events
- Act as the primary point of contact for community-led fundraisers, providing support to individuals, schools, and businesses raising funds for TCR.
- Distribute branding kits, messaging tools, and digital resources to help community organizers maximize their impact.
- Assist internal teams in cross-promoting third-party events across TCR’s digital platforms.
- Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Events
- Support TCR’s Peer-to-Peer programs, including the Boston Marathon, Falmouth Road Race, and Fall 5K/walk/community event, by assisting participants throughout their fundraising journey.
- Facilitate the onboarding and stewardship of individual fundraisers, ensuring they feel supported and informed.
- Maintain personal fundraising pages and provide technical troubleshooting for participants sharing their stories online.
- Research and suggest new Peer-to-Peer trends or events to help grow TCR’s annual fundraising calendar.
- Sponsorship Recruitment & Stewardship
- Assist in the growth of the corporate sponsorship program by maintaining organized records and tracking outreach.
- Conduct research to identify potential local business partners whose values align with TCR’s mission.
- Help update and tailor sponsorship materials and benefit packages for various corporate audiences.
- Execute sponsor recognition tasks, ensuring all benefits (like logo placement and social media mentions) are fulfilled and thanked promptly.

- An Empathetic and Collaborative Partner: You possess strong emotional intelligence, allowing you to connect with and understand diverse stakeholders, including staff, and foster effective and personable communication across all levels.
- Mission-Oriented: You are passionate about TCR’s core belief, that grief is a natural process best supported through community. You believe in the power of bringing people together to build hope and resilience for families navigating loss.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in event coordination, fundraising, hospitality, or related work, which may include internships, volunteer roles, or part-time positions.
