The Fitchburg Public Schools Afterschool Program at South Street Early Learning Center is an afterschool program designed to meet the needs of young learners and their families during out-of-school time. The Enrichment Teacher/Instructor plays a vital role in designing and implementing dynamic goals and objectives for young learners. These objectives revolve around standards-based, project-based activities that enhance both academic and social-emotional skills. With your passion for children and belief in their ability to learn and self-advocate, we will create an afterschool environment that is warm, joyful, playful and cultivates learning about social/emotional and other skills to make their school days more successful. Whether working with individuals or groups, the Teacher/Instructor fosters creativity and engagement, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience for students. Afterschool programming will take place during two 9-10 week sessions with orientation/training before the program start, between the two sessions, and one staff meeting at the end for reflection.


This posting is for both certified and non-certified teachers/instructors .


Qualifications:

  • Both certified and non-certified staff must have an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education, child development, or a related field (or be working towards an associate degree or higher); or have equivalent job experience in the field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • In order to qualify as a certified teacher/instructor, candidate must have a Certified Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license
    • Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK–8*
    • SEI Endorsement
  • Experience in implementing afterschool activities for children;
  • Ability to plan and facilitate academic enrichment workshops aligned with specific standards/focus in socio-emotional learning;
  • Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations;
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents ;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders;
  • Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student;
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid preferred, training will be provided for candidates who don’t already possess training;
  • Preference will be given to staff members currently employed as a licensed teacher in FPS.
  • Applicants must commit to being present for the full duration of the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Be prepared to provide specific details with goals and objectives for a 10-week proposed activity;
    • Please use the cover letter in TalentED to narrate what enrichment activities you could implement that are creative, engaging, and aligned with a SEL educational component.
  • Prepare and implement a standards-based, project-based activity with a Social/Emotional skill for a minimum of 1 hour per day per session;
  • Take and maintain daily student attendance;
  • Provide differentiated instruction to children with special needs and English language learners
  • Ensure instructional materials are available for students;
  • Deliver activities/instructions within the specified time frame;
  • Administer and complete pre/post tests and other surveys and assessments as required by the district;
  • Maintain and submit student attendance records weekly to the site coordinator;
  • Other duties as assigned.

All program hours must be during out-of-school time. All duties must be performed during non-contractual hours.


Multiple positions are available; dependent upon the number of student participants.

South Street Early Learning Center: 2:40 - 4:40 PM


Total Compensation: Not To Exceed (NTE) 205 hours $35/hr Not To Exceed (NTE): $7,175.00. This amount includes all program time as well as all prep and wrap-up required - timesheet submission for payment bi-weekly.


Terms of Employment/Salary/Work Year:

As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).


This is a retirement-eligible stipend.
