Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Location: Hyannis, MA 02601

Duration: 13 Weeks (Contract)

Schedule: Monday–Friday (1:00 PM–9:00 PM or 2:00 PM–10:00 PM)
Rotating weekends and holidays required

Pay Rate: $25/hr – $30/hr

• Provide courteous and professional service to patients, staff, and visitors.

• Support internal and external customer satisfaction initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

• Perform data entry functions including order entry, result entry, cancellations, and admissions.

• Operate and maintain laboratory information systems; troubleshoot and initiate backup systems as needed.

• Answer incoming calls and relay accurate information regarding lab testing and procedures.

• Communicate key specimen information (e.g., adequacy, test add-ons, cancellations) to technical staff.

• Pick up and deliver lab specimens and requisitions throughout the facility.

• Verify incoming specimens with couriers and ensure proper handling and distribution.

• Prepare and ship specimens to reference laboratories or intra-system locations; manage related documentation.

• Coordinate and file reference lab reports accurately and timely.

• Monitor inventory levels; order, receive, and store supplies as required.

• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

• Ensure lab areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety and infection control protocols.

• Follow all hospital policies, including emergency response procedures.

• Participate in QA data collection and other lab-related projects.

• Perform pre-analytic specimen processing (e.g., aliquoting, centrifugation, labeling, numbering).

• Inoculate and process culture specimens for transport or testing.

• Collect blood specimens from patients of all ages as assigned.

• Clean laboratory glassware and perform general cleaning duties not handled by Environmental Services.

• Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

• Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions.

• Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute.

• Completion of Medical Terminology I or passing score of 80% or higher on internal medical terminology test.

• At least one year of experience in a related position (e.g., Clinical Associate, Lab Assistant, Phlebotomist, CNA, Unit Clerk, Medical Secretary, etc.).

• Familiarity with laboratory order entry and phlebotomy procedures.

• Proficient in using lab information systems and general computer applications.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Must wear facility-issued identification badge at all times.
