Job Overview: To teach arts courses on a variety of media and subject matter to youth, teen, and/or adult students of a range of experience levels; to remain current on new arts approaches, subjects, techniques, and teaching styles; and to support the facilitation of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) in Studio Programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teaching - Teach class(es) as agreed upon with the Manager of Studio Programs; give individual and group instruction as required by the medium/subject of the class.
- Class Management -
- Monitor class atmosphere and practice classroom management techniques to encourage a positive learning environment.
- Ensure the safety and care of students, staff, spaces, materials, tools, and resources of the Museum.
- Balance students' academic, social, and emotional needs equitably.
- Curriculum Development -
- Integrate the Museum's permanent collection/rotating exhibitions into classes. This includes research, developing engaging lessons, leading students on gallery visits, and facilitating group discussions.
- Review and update course materials for repeat classes (hand-outs, suggested texts, student supply lists) annually.
- Preparation-
- Prepare and submit course lesson plans; requests for models, equipment, and gallery visits; and other information on time.
- Complete material or resource prep in a timely manner before class.
- Retrieve supplies for youth classes and prepare studios for adult classes prior to class start time.
- Communication -
- Record attendance and return class rosters daily.
- Engage in regular and professional communications with staff, faculty, assistants, students, and students' caregiver(s).
- Inform Museum staff of absences, teaching scheduled makeup classes or providing a substitution plan in conversation with Museum staff.
- Attend paid training opportunities, open houses, and department meetings. Faculty are encouraged to attend other all-staff WAM meetings.
- Uphold WAM's mission, vision, and values as part of its strategic plan and DEAI initiatives.
- Perform other duties as necessary.

- Ability to work with and teach students from different backgrounds and levels of artistic development
- Strong knowledge of and experience in course materials to be taught
Education and Experience:
A BA/BFA or equivalent teaching experience required.
One to two years of experience teaching art or working in an educational setting; a practicing knowledge of art education and the media(s) and materials you will be teaching.
