Service Equipment Mechanic

New Bedford, MA
The Service Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of critical facility systems. This includes HVAC, environmental controls, fire protection, process systems, and the operation of Cogeneration (Cogen) and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) systems. Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Building Services.

  • Specific experience with HVAC (Chilled Water, Desiccant, and Direct Expansion/DX) is required.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Required: MA 2nd Class Fireman License.

  • Preferred: Universal Refrigeration License, Wastewater Treatment Certification, and Electrician/Journeyman Electrician License.

  • Required: Ability to obtain forklift, pallet-jack, and man-lift licenses.

  • Note: Class A or B CDL is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Pneumatics: Necessary experience in pneumatic systems.

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Thorough knowledge of mechanical production equipment, pumping systems, and basic safety protocols (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space).

  • Computer Literacy: Demonstrated Windows-based computer skills; ability to use CMMS software.

  • Tools: Must possess own trade-related tools.

Physical & Professional Capabilities
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manufacturing specifications.

  • Precision: Ability to use measuring devices/tolerances and operate machine tools (drills, lathes, millers, etc.).

  • Communication: Must read, write, and speak English fluently with strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team.

  • Assessment: Must pass a Leadership Assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Systems Monitoring & Operation (40%): Monitor and maintain the Building Management System (BMS). Oversee hot water heating, cooling/AC, process refrigeration, fire protection sprinklers, compressed air, and hydraulics. Operate Cogen and HRSG units, ensuring all facility systems run within specified guidelines and reporting any out-of-spec conditions to leadership.

  • Preventative Maintenance (30%): Document all PM activities on facility-related equipment using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

  • Inventory & Documentation (20%): Manage parts inventory and execute work orders through the CMMS to ensure operational readiness.

  • Calibration (10%): Calibrate monitoring equipment to ensure continuous system accuracy.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other facility-related tasks as assigned.
