Starting salary from $20.00 an hour and up The Patient Financial Advocacy Coordinator is responsible for assisting patients and/or families to access financial resources for Pharmacy co-pays. The Advocate assists patients who may qualify for assistance through Not for Profit Organizations and Manufacturer Programs. The Advocate is also available to patients and families to answer questions regarding their insurance benefit structure for needed medications and provide co-pay amounts for their treatment. They are responsible for navigating the system to find resources that best fits the patient's needs, aid patients by explaining the process, assist in filling out applications and going over the documents that will be required to complete the application. Patient Financial Advocacy Coordinator Responsibilities: - Practices first call resolution to help health care providers and patients with their pharmacy needs, answering questions and requests.
- Maintains a working knowledge of health insurance and pharmacy benefit coverage, cancer diagnoses and drugs used in their treatment.
- Provides thorough, accurate and timely responses to requests from pharmacy operations, providers and/or patients regarding benefit information.
- Ensures complete and accurate patient setup in CPR+ system including patient demographic and insurance information.
- Develop relationships with PAP's, Manufacturer and other assistance programs to secure funding for Oncology Patients for their cancer medications.
- Implement the operational process of initiating, completing and appropriate follow up for financial assistance for both under insured and uninsured patients.
- Interacts with patients and families with a variety of developmental and socio-cultural backgrounds to provide information to patients and families regarding their benefits and financial assistance options
- Maintain confidentiality in matters relating to patient and family while serving as a liaison between patients, physicians, advocacy funds and other oncology pharmacies.
- Maintain and update understanding of health insurance and pharmacy benefit coverage.
- Provide information to patients and families in order to counsel and educate regarding their benefit plan.
- Maintain professional relationships and convey relevant information to other members of the healthcare team within facility and any applicable referral agencies.
- Initiate communication with peers about priorities as well as collaborate with cross functional teams on operational and sales initiatives.
- Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations and compliance with professional practice and patient confidentiality laws.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed and other duties as assigned.
- Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, its policies and procedures, the Corporate Compliance Agreement, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
Patient Financial Advocacy Coordinator Qualifications: Education/Learning Experience - Required: High School Diploma or GED. Previous Experience in Pharmacy or Patient Advocacy/Financial Assistance
- Desired: Associate degree or equivalent program from a 2 year program or technical school, Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB), Specialty pharmacy experience
- Work Experience

- Desired: 3+ years patient assistance/advocacy experience
- Skills/Knowledge
- Required: Knowledge/understanding of current patient assistance programs and resources to assist patients financially (i.E. foundations, manufacturer programs, state programs, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance, coordination of benefits, NDC medication billing, pharmacy or healthcare-related knowledge, basic math and analytical skills, Intermediate typing/keyboarding skills.
- Desired: Specialty pharmacy experience, knowledge of pharmacy terminology including sig codes, and Roman numerals, brand/generic names of medication:
