We are working with a small, growing manufacturer in the Greater Boston area to identify a hands-on Director of Operations . This is a critical leadership role responsible for all aspects of plant operations — production, quality, people, budget, and continuous improvement. The right candidate brings deep manufacturing experience, a roll-up-your-sleeves management style, and a track record of building operational discipline in a lean environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily plant operations to meet production targets, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor workflow and adjust priorities to accommodate changing demand.
• Define and track KPIs; implement corrective actions as needed.
• Support development of short- and long-term operational goals.
• Oversee routine maintenance and coordinate equipment repairs with vendors and technicians.
• Lead and mentor a small, cross-functional production team.
• Drive a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to budgeting and cost management across labor, materials, and equipment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in manufacturing or production of low-volume, complex products , including 7+ years of supervisory/leadership experience.
• Demonstrated job stability — consistent tenure with employers is important to our client.
• Background in RF, microwave, or related electronics/defense manufacturing required.
• Hands-on management style — comfortable working on the floor alongside the team.
• Strong command of manufacturing processes, workflow management, and quality systems.
• Significant ERP/MRP experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail.
• Experience in a small business or startup/growth-stage manufacturing environment.
• Lean manufacturing or formal process improvement background (Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma, etc.).
• Familiarity with ISO, OSHA, ITAR, or comparable standards.

Compensation: Up to $175K base DOE/DOQ + bonus + comprehensive benefits.
