Education & Interpretation Manager
Lexington History Museums seeks a qualified candidate for Education & Interpretation
Manager. Lexington History Museums (formerly Lexington Historical Society) is an
independent non-profit organization that serves as a premier interpreter of the events of
April 1775, and the faithful steward of all the town's history through time. LHM operates
three historic sites, Buckman Tavern, Munroe Tavern, and the Hancock-Clarke House,
where significant events of the Revolutionary War unfolded, as well as the Lexington
History Museum at the Lexington Depot. An extensive collection from throughout three
hundred years of Lexington history includes documents, artwork, furniture, and textiles,
which are available to researchers at the Archives & Research Center. Special
programs for adults and children, including lectures, performances, educational
programs and tours, are regularly offered.
The part-time Education & Interpretation Manager is responsible for coordinating and
delivering high-quality educational programs for school, family, and community
audiences, with a focus on program implementation, educator training, and community
partnerships. Working closely with staff, committee members, and community
volunteers, the Education & Interpretation Manager ensures that educational offerings
align with LHM’s mission and interpretive goals.

Overall responsibilities of the Education & Interpretation Manager include:
- Coordinating and implementing existing school programs and guided tours.
- Assisting with seasonal programs, including children’s reenactment activities, spring and summer programs.
- Conducting training and evaluation of Museum Educators
- Overseeing the creation and presentation of educational and training materials, scripts, and reference materials.
- Developing strong relationships with local schools, educators and community organizations.
Qualifications:
- A minimum 3 years of experience in museum education, interpretation, or a related educational role, with a bachelor’s degree in history, education, museum studies, or a related field.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrated training or support of part-time educators, guides, or volunteers.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences and age groups and to work weekends, holidays, and special events as required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general business software.
- Preference is given to persons with experience working with school programs and a background in tourism, informal education, and familiarity with American history or historic sites.
This part-time position averages 25 hours per week, at a rate of $23/hour.
