Maintenance Worker
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of campus buildings, grounds, mechanical equipment, and utility systems. This role supports the safe, efficient, and clean operation of all facilities and requires a reliable, flexible, and self‑motivated individual capable of completing projects independently and as part of a team.
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title. Employees may be requested to perform tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems, fixtures, and mechanical equipment
- Conduct light carpentry work including minor repairs, installations, and adjustments
- Complete basic plumbing tasks such as fixing leaks, clearing drains, and replacing fixtures
- Carry out light electrical work including replacing switches, outlets, lighting, and troubleshooting minor issues
- Perform painting, patching, wall repairs, and flooring touch-ups as needed
- Assist with swimming pool maintenance, including water testing, treatment, and equipment upkeep
- Maintain campus grounds including landscaping, mowing, trimming, leaf removal, and seasonal plant care
- Provide snow removal and ice management, including shoveling, salting, and use of snow-removal equipment
- Support trash and recycling removal across buildings and grounds; collaborate with housekeeping for waste collection needs
- Monitor and maintain facility utility systems, reporting issues promptly
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, grounds equipment, and maintenance machinery
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment and document findings
- Assist other departments as needed, especially housekeeping, during high‑volume or urgent situations
- Communicate work progress, issues, and completed tasks clearly to supervisors
- Demonstrate and ensure all interactions between coworkers as well as all interactions in the presence of clients are appropriate, respectful, and in line with all training principles
- Climb ladders and work at various heights safely
- Bend, kneel, reach, twist, and work in confined or awkward spaces
- Lift and carry 100 lbs unassisted , and up to 150 lbs with assistance
- Perform tasks requiring prolonged standing, walking, and manual dexterity
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Demonstrated ability to perform general building, mechanical, and grounds maintenance
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and landscaping
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot routine issues independently
- Reliable, flexible, and highly self-motivated with a commitment to completing projects thoroughly and on time
- Ability to follow safety procedures and operate tools and equipment safely
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- 1+ year of experience in a facilities, building maintenance, or groundskeeping role
- Valid United States driver’s license required
- Familiarity with swimming pool systems and maintenance preferred, but not required
- Other tasks as assigned

The hourly wage for this role is $23-26 per hour USD. This number does not reflect additional compensation-related benefits such as PTO, medical and life insurance, EAP, and the Italian Home for Children 403(b) retirement plan.
