Overview

Under general supervision of the Clinical Research Budgets Manager, the Clinical Research Financial Analyst (CRFA-II) is responsible for financial planning, developing budgets, negotiating financial agreements with funding sources and vendors, and ensuring effective financial management throughout the lifecycle of Clinical Research studies. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to Senior Clinical Research Financial Analyst. In the absence of a Senior Clinical Research Financial Analyst this position refers to more complex issues to the Clinical Research Budgets Manager.

  • Reviews and interprets Medicare Coverage Analyses, corresponding protocols, and other applicable documents for budget builds and negotiations.
  • Responsible for Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) budget builds and in a timely manner resolves budget build queries.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Research teams to understand study requirements and accurately project costs.
  • Prepares and presents detailed and accurate budgets for Clinical Research studies.
  • Leads study budget meetings with key stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Leads negotiations with funding sources, vendors, and other stakeholders to secure favorable budgets and financial terms and conditions.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates the progress of budget and financial terms and conditions negotiations to ensure key stakeholders are maintained informed on an on-going basis.
  • Collaborates with contracts team to ensure budgets and financial terms and conditions are clearly defined and agreed upon in a timely manner.
  • Develops cost projections for various study phases and ensures alignment with contracts and budgets.
  • Monitors and controls study budgets to ensure expenditures align with approved budgets and cost projections.
  • Manages and processes amendments to budgets and financial terms and conditions as necessary to accommodate changes in study scope or requirements.
  • Builds study specific CTMS financial tracking and works closely with Clinical Research Accounting and study teams to ensure financial activity is up to date.
  • Works closely with study teams and Clinical Research Finance teams to address financial inquiries and support study-related financial management through regular meetings and communications.
  • Partners with key stakeholders in Clinical Research Accounting to enhance revenue collection.
  • Prepares and presents Disease Center study financial reports, forecasts, and analyses.
  • Organizes and maintains the Clinical Research Budgets Office central e-mail box; responds in a timely manner to applicable study financial e-mail communications.
  • Maintains accurate and organized budgets, financial agreements and transactions, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for audits and general financial reporting.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in Clinical Research study budgeting procedures.
  • Implements best practices and contributes to the development of financial management policies and procedures.
  • Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher level Clinical Research Budget Office team members.
  • Works independently to identify and resolve opportunities for optimizing assigned Clinical Research study budgets. This includes conducting detailed financial analyses, identifying discrepancies or inefficiencies, and implementing solutions to ensure budgets are in alignment with study objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to junior Clinical Research Budgets Office team members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of the clinical trials lifecycle required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem- solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational abilities are essential.
  • Knowledge of computer applications (Excel, Word, Access) is essential.
  • Ability to navigate various finance software in order to write and put together reports and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of and experience in financial system applications and software.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently managing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to manipulate and understand complex information.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required.

Minimum Experience:

  • 2 years of financial management experience required.
  • Previous clinical research experience preferred.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
