Business Development Manager, Immunoassays & Biomarkers
Spear Bio, founded in 2021, is a well-funded and rapidly growing biotech start-up headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts. Position Summary
Spear Bio is seeking several experienced and top‑performing Business Development Managers to introduce our high‑performing and expanding portfolio of ultra‑sensitive Immunoassays to the Life Sciences and CRO markets. This will include:
- Collaborate with Key Opinion Leaders and partners to introduce Spear Bio’s portfolio of ultrasensitive immunoassay products.
- Promote a unique high value, State‑of‑the‑Art technology in the ever‑growing Neuroscience and Immunoassay field.
- Support our strategic partnership with Bio‑techne, the industry leader in Immunoassays, with managing their funnel, training, and key business requirements to meet the financial targets of both companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Expand commercial Assay Development sales efforts by driving revenue growth and capturing market share.
- Utilize your existing network to expand the outreach of our offerings to Biotech, Academic, Government laboratories, Research, and Big Pharma markets.
- Assist our partner, Bio‑techne, with meeting the targets of their distribution agreement to Spear Bio.
- Work closely with the R&D & Assay Services teams to further establish our capabilities in the lab and address the needs of Spear Bio’s growing assay development program.
- Create an efficient process and project workflow that manages expectations for customers, internal stakeholders, and partners in providing top assay development products.
- Develop a concise business development plan and regularly review and refine key milestones.
- Provide regular updates and forecasting to your manager and key internal stakeholders to build increasing momentum.
- Apply insight on current competitive landscape to develop strategies enabling Spear Bio to win in a competitive market where we have a strong scientific advantage.
- Travel and meet with prospective and existing customers to understand opportunities and gaps.
Required Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or related field with 6-8+ years of an established track record in sales or business development, presenting ultrasensitive immunoassays or neurology IVD products to customers.
- Existing network of high‑level scientific customers within Big Pharma, Biotech, and Academic market segments, as well as knowledge of IVD markets.
- Proven and consistent track record exceeding quotas, revenue targets, and increasing market share in your territory/region.
- Clear and pro‑active communicator with advanced commercial sales acumen, high energy, a strong work ethic, and a bias for action.
- Ability to ask the right questions of potential customers to then strategically communicate how Spear Bio's differentiated technology and performance will directly benefit them over the competition.
- Ability to clearly present technology solutions in a way that leads to strong revenue outcomes.
- Ability to translate observations and customer feedback into strategy.
- Comfortable providing and receiving feedback designed to improve engagement and results.
- Ability to collaborate within a best‑in‑class team environment comprised of Field Application functions, Assay Services, and others.
- Willingness to travel up to 30-40% for customer engagement and industry events.
