We’re Seeking a Rockstar Coding Counselor
NORY is looking for talented Coding Counselors to inspire and guide our 8-12-year-olds through exciting coding and hands-on engineering projects while also teaching other engaging activities. In this role, you'll facilitate lessons using coding languages similar to Scratch, coach students to create inventions with Arduino circuit boards, sensors, and proprietary robots, and foster a positive environment where curiosity thrives. As part of our empathetic, growth-driven educator team, you’ll motivate campers to explore, invent, and build lifelong skills. Holiday Coding Counselor Responsibilities:
Facilitate Coding Lessons : Use languages similar to Scratch to guide students in programming.
Coach Inventions: Guide students to create meaningful inventions with Arduino circuit boards, sensors, and proprietary robots, etc.
Encourage a Positive Environment: Promote a positive learning atmosphere and reinforce NORY’s core values of resilience, inquisitiveness, and empathy.
Safety and Supervision : Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all campers, adhering to camp safety guidelines.
Activity Coordination : Help organize and lead camp activities, ensuring each day is dynamic and enriching for every camper.
Holiday Coding Counselor Qualifications:
Experience with Children: You have 1+ year of experience working with 8-12-year-old children, fostering their curiosity and creativity.
Enthusiastic and Eager to Learn: You love learning new technologies and skills, especially related to coding and STEM education.
Positive and Solution-Oriented: You maintain a positive outlook, always seeking solutions and welcoming constructive feedback to foster personal and professional growth.
Fun and Energetic: Your energetic and fun-loving nature matches the dynamism of our young campers, creating an exciting and engaging learning environment.
Passion for STEM: You are passionate about teaching coding concepts and enjoy exploring other STEM subjects like hands-on engineering projects to inspire young learners.

Holiday Coding Counselor Compensation and Benefits:
Schedule: Seasonal, during holidays from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Coding sessions run from 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM, with additional hours before and after coding sessions to lead camp activities and ensure a seamless day.
Compensation:
$17 - $20.50/hour for camp activities (7:30 AM - 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM).
$39 - $51.50/hour for coding sessions (9:30 AM - 12:00 PM) which includes:
- Preparation: Arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early for material setup.
- Lesson Plan Review and Clean-Up: Time for reviewing lesson plans, occasional training, and post-class clean-up.
- Pro-rated Adjustments : Payments are prorated for shorter class durations (e.g., a 45-minute class).
- Materials Handling: Lead teachers are responsible for collecting and returning materials to NORY HQ in Midtown Manhattan, unless specified otherwise.
Additional $20/hr for extended care until 5:00 pm.
