Postdoctoral Researcher
Postdoctoral Researcher: Kalish Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital
Research Focus: Developmental Neurobiology and Neuroimmunology
In the Kalish Lab, our mission is to use cutting-edge research techniques to understand the mechanisms of fetal and neonatal brain injury, as well as the early life origins of neurodevelopmental disorders. Our goal is to build a translational research platform that can take discoveries from the bedside to the bench and back. We are recruiting a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to expand our work on several potential projects: (1) the role of cytokines and chemokines in early neurodevelopment; (2) mechanisms by which maternal gut-immune axis shapes fetal neurodevelopment; (3) neuro-immune trajectory after early life brain injury. The research will use animal models, human cell culture, advanced spatial biology, mouse behavior, and brain circuit mapping approaches. There are opportunities to leverage data from tractable, human-relevant large animal models of neonatal brain injury.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply neuroimmunology approaches to map and manipulate the immune response to brain injury and other early life perturbations.
- Lead animal model-based experiments to manipulate the immune system in the context of fetal and neonatal brain injury.
- Employ single cell and spatial biology tools
- Collaborate and mentor members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Maintain accurate lab records and documentation
- Contribute to publications and grant proposals.
- Stay current with scientific advances in the fields of neuroimmunology, and apply emerging techniques and insights to their own research
Qualifications and Experience:
- MD, PhD, or MD/PhD Experience in developmental neurobiology
- Immunology experience strongly preferred
- Expert in multi-color flow cytometry and/or single cell biology
- Experience in bioinformatics, including data analysis in R or Python
- Excellent communication and presentation skills Evidence of consistent scientific innovation
- Proven track record of publications in peer reviewed journals
- Able to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to collect and analyze experimental data, prepare research publications, and communicate results
