Girls Varsity Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coaches
Two (2) Positions
The Girls Varsity Track & Field Assistant Coaches must assume a major role in supporting the vision and direction of the program’s Head Coach in fostering cooperation and positive teamwork, exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship and fan involvement at games and special events, and most importantly, assume a major role in assisting the development of our youth as future leaders. This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student-athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents, and the community. Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness are key requirements.
Assistant 1 $3750.00
Assistant 2 $2800.00
The Assistant Coaches report to the program’s Head Coach and then the Director of Athletics. This position requires the coach to complete an employment application, background check, and all district, MIAA, and NFHS required training on an annual basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES at the direction of the Head Coach:
- Care for the entire program, and will support all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to, the safety and inventory of athletic equipment.
- Communicate with the Head Coach concerning any incidents that come up in regards to student-athletes or parental concerns.
- Supports maintaining and upholding the highest standards of student-athlete scholarship. Promoting academics before athletics by assisting with monitoring academic performance and enforcing eligibility.
- Supports the Head Coach in upholding the highest standards of student-athlete sportsmanship and behavior in competition, in the classroom, and in the community.
- Supports the Head Coach in generating an active sports You for internal team communication and communication with families.
- Supports maintaining and updating of records for student-athlete registration and physicals/medical clearances in conjunction with the Athletic Office and Nurses Office.
- Supports the Head Coach in creating an environment where all student-athletes are given the opportunity to compete in the sport while promoting growth and sportsmanship.
- Assist with building a positive relationship with the community to promote the sport.
- Assist with the demonstration of all skills, drills, and fundamentals of the sport necessary for individual and team development.
- Assist with the planning, organizing, and directing of the entire sports program (varsity, JV1, JV2) as a cohesive unit.
- Assisting with the management of the inventory of all equipment, including the distribution and complete collection of all aspects of team uniforms.
- Be present at all weekend activities.
- Assist with supervising student-athletes before practices, during/after practices, and during activities/events.
- Attend all coaching meetings, both internal, external, and league, as assigned.
- Support the evaluation of the progress of the student-athletes with an eye toward developing and growing the student-athletes' potential.
- Assist with fundraising, along with promoting community support and awareness.
- Assist and support the planning, organizing, advertising, and conducting of tryouts for the program; inform the Athletic Department and participants of final selections. Assist with maintaining the integrity of the selection process.
- Support scrimmages and daily practice schedules for the program.
- Support the submission of team numerical rosters to the Athletic Department a minimum of two weeks before the first game, any changes to student information on the roster, inventories, final season statistics, and alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season (a list including the number of awards and the class of the athlete).
- Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards the opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators, and community.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of the sport and experience in coaching the skills, techniques, and fundamentals of the sport.
- Certified in CPR/Defib.
- Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents, and advocate for children to effectively problem solve.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and ability to work with all stakeholders.
- Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student.

This position is temporary for the length of the season.
Terms of Employment/Salary/Work Year:
As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).
An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of NCBC (fingerprinting) and CORI prior to your start of employment.
