POSITION TITLE: Full-time Faculty - Computer Information Systems Instructor (Open Rank - Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor)
DEPARTMENT: Computer Information Systems
REPORTS TO: Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Education Programs
POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time, Open Rank (Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor), MCCC unit position with benefits.
LOCATION: Courses may be offered in online, hybrid, or face-to-face modalities in Fall River, Attleboro, New Bedford, and/or Taunton.
STARTING DATE: Academic Year 2027 (Fall Semester, 2026)
SALARY: $57,289 - $74,369 - actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Full-time Faculty - Computer Information Systems (Networking and Programming) position is a tenure-track position that will teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of computer information systems courses. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, teaching and developing curriculum/course material for computer networking and computer programming and offering student support through varied interactions. The programs and their courses are found in our academic catalog ( This position also develops curriculum/course material for the Associates in IT Administration and Networking and/ or Associates in Computer Programming and Web Development. Full-time faculty will engage in a critical role in the teaching and learning process, contributing to student learning outcomes and success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of computer information systems courses to meet learning outcomes, and promote students' active participation in their own learning.
- Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course and student learning outcomes and General Education competencies as appropriate, according to the teaching modality of the course (online, face-to-face, and hybrid).
- Foster student success across the college's diverse student body, and address equity gaps, through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.
- Incorporate High-Impact Practices (HIPs) into curricular and pedagogical approaches, prioritizing those that provide students with real-world experiences such as Service-Learning and internships.
- Develop and revise curricula to align with employer demand, transfer institutions, and industry standards.
- Support the development of certificates, microcredentials, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Work with regional employers, workforce boards, and transfer institutions to ensure program relevance.
- Assist with grant writing, administration, and reporting to support innovation and student opportunities.
- Serve as academic advisor to assigned students.
- Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week.
- Serve on college committees as elected or appointed.
- Attend program, department, academic area, all-college and committee/council meetings.
- Recommend suitable instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions.
- Assess student learning and assign grades through equitable and inclusive pedagogies and assessment strategies.
- Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues, to teach online as needed, and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate.
- Engage in professional development activities to address the college's goals related to technology, academic innovation and equity, through participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in the discipline and in the classroom.
- Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
- Complete required trainings such as, but not limited to, Title IX, FERPA, and Information Security.
- Adhere to workload as specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including duties such as, but not limited to, developing curricula to address course and student learning outcomes and General Education competencies as appropriate, completing book orders, creating syllabi, verifying student enrollment, and submitting final grades by the contractual deadline.
- Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
- Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
- Actively participate in the general college community.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.
- Minimum of a Master's degree in computer information systems, computer science, or a related field with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Professional experience in a subject area may also be considered as a substitution if the Master's degree is not in the specified areas.
- Ability to teach foundational CIS courses in at least two of the following areas: computer programming (languages, databases, video gaming), computer networking (operating systems, administration, networking technologies), and cybersecurity (fundamentals, firewalls, risk management).
- Demonstrated proficiency using online technology and supporting technologies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience with college level teaching or as a facilitator in a corporate or non-profit environment.
- Experience in curricular planning and assessment, as well as demonstrated use of High Impact Practices, technologies, and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student learning.
- The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
- Prior experience teaching online using a learning management system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working on committees and within teams.
- Experience with web development, robotics, or video gaming.
- Demonstrated commitment to closing equity gaps.
- Experience in community college teaching, advising, and/or curriculum development.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Canvas.
- Demonstrated capacity to offer fresh perspectives and support a culture of innovation.
- Graduate of Bristol's Adjunct Certificate Program.
- 18 graduate credits in computer information systems, computer science, or related field.
- Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
