Clinical Lecturer
Job Description
The Lab Education Coordinator provides direct instruction, supervision, and support to faculty delivering the course-required lab curriculum to nursing students. This role collaborates closely with course faculty and clinical coordinators to ensure high-quality, evidence-based lab instruction aligned with program goals and student learning outcomes. The Lab Education Coordinator ensures standardized evaluation practices, promotes interrater reliability, and supports faculty development in alignment with institutional goals, the AACN Essentials, and the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice. The Lab Education Coordinator reports directly to the Director of the Center for Clinical and Educational Resources (CCER) and indirectly to the Lead Clinical Coordinator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Oversight
- Coordinate lab schedules, instructor assignments, and resource availability in collaboration with CCER staff.
- Provide leadership and oversight to lab instructors, ensuring alignment with course objectives and lab curriculum standards.
- Ensure lab instructors are onboarded, trained, and supported in their teaching roles.
- Mentor lab faculty in evidence-based instructional strategies and learner-centered approaches.
- Assess instructor performance through observation, feedback, and evaluation.
- Assume instructional responsibilities during lab sessions as necessary to ensure consistent coverage and program continuity.
Student Evaluation and Assessment
- Oversee student performance evaluation for both traditional and accelerated undergraduate programs, and other programs as needed.
- Confirm rubric validity and ensure consistent application of evaluation tools across instructors and cohorts.
- Establish and maintain interrater reliability through faculty calibration sessions and data review.
- Support lab instructors in evaluating student performance and implementing remediation plans when needed.
Curriculum and Quality Assurance
- Maintain knowledge of specific course requirements, lab and clinical experiences, and University and MCNHS policies.
- Partner with faculty to integrate simulation and skills activities that promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning and judgment, and professional identity formation.
- Review and approve new or revised rubrics and checklists to ensure alignment with best practices.
- Monitor outcomes data to identify trends and support continuous quality improvement in teaching and assessment.
- Participate in policy and procedure development to ensure standardization across lab-based education.
- Participate in curriculum development and continuous improvement of lab-based learning experiences.
- Monitor lab instruction quality and provide feedback and mentoring to lab faculty.
Faculty and Professional Development
- Lead MCNHS lab faculty orientations and professional development opportunities.
- Promote faculty engagement with simulation-based research, innovation, and scholarship.
- Participate in accreditation preparation (SSH, INACSL) and contribute to strategic planning initiatives within the CCER.
Collaboration and Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for lab-related instructional issues, faculty support, and student concerns.
- Collaborate with the Lead Clinical Coordinator, course faculty and clinical coordinators to ensure consistency across lab and clinical instruction.
- Serve as a liaison between course faculty, lab instructors, and simulation faculty to revise and enhance lab curriculum and learning activities.
- Collaborate closely with the Lab Manager and Simulation Operations Specialist to ensure operational alignment.
- Collaborate with Lead Clinical Coordinator to conduct annual student N95 fit testing as required by clinical partners.
- Attend and contribute to faculty meetings, planning sessions, and professional development initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Master’s degree in nursing
- Possess a current unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse license
- Current AHA BLS Provider certification
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting
- Demonstrated expertise in both theoretical and practical aspects of clinical or lab-based nursing instruction
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Preferred
- Nurse Practitioner certification, or a doctoral degree (DNP or PhD), or active enrollment in a doctoral program
- Experience using learning management systems and electronic assessment tools
- Familiarity with AACN Essentials and INACSL Standards of Best Practice
