Reading specialist
August 22, 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year full-time positionDearborn Academy, one of New Englands leading 766 approved therapeutic day schools, is seeking a full time reading specialist for the 2025-2026 school year. Dearborn enrolls up to sixty students in grades 3-12 who have specific learning disabilities and/or mild to moderate emotional challenges. Our rich academic program, which includes diversified student support and explicit instruction, combined with our strong clinical component, allows students who have been unsuccessful in previous school settings to achieve substantial gains.The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have the following qualities and experience: Demonstrated compassion and kindness towards students, families and staffBelief that students who demonstrate unexpected behaviors have gaps in their skills, with a drive to identify these gaps and then teach to the skill areas to address these gapsExperience with reading intervention/instruction/assessment for students with diverse learning styles and social/emotional disabilitiesExperience with leading and supporting 1:1, small group, and inclusion classes using a strengths-based, highly structured, multi-sensory approach Experience developing and implementing language and executive function supports for students to use across content areasWell-organized and able to create a classroom environment supportive of learning and exploringSelf starter with a collaborative style; someone who values a community of highly-engaged team members Responsibilities: Design and implement instruction for 1:1 and small group classes (for reading remediation, Dearborn predominantly uses the Wilson Reading System)Complete assessments and collect data regarding student progress and gaps for information sharing and tracking (team meetings, quarterly progress reports and annual IEPs)Provide language and executive function support in other classroomsWork collaboratively with Dearborn team to support a consistent and trauma-informed school cultureActively participate in program, departmental, and school-wide trainings, meetings and activities Perform other duties within the milieu as neededQualifications: - Bachelors Degree required- MA Licensure in Reading, Moderate Disabilities, or English required (or qualified for a waiver)- Two years experience with the ED and LD population preferred- Experience with the use of assistive technology to support academics preferred- Strong commitment to academic preparation with an emphasis on a student-centered educationDearborn provides a supportive team environment with a competitive wage/benefit program.
