Data Center Technician
Overview
MetroSys is looking for a hands-on Data Center Technician to support operational activities within client data center environments. This position focuses on physical infrastructure support, equipment handling, routine maintenance tasks, and coordination with technical teams and vendors. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working around enterprise-class hardware.
Key Responsibilities
Provide on-site support for physical data center equipment including servers, storage arrays, backup appliances, and network devices.
Carry out routine operational tasks such as equipment inventory updates, asset tagging, hardware moves, and coordination of inbound/outbound shipments.
Assist with racking, cabling, installing, relocating, and decommissioning equipment following structured cabling and safety guidelines.
Perform visual inspections, isolate hardware issues, and work with vendors to schedule replacements or repairs as needed.
Handle basic network tasks such as patching, cable testing, validating connections, and updating documentation.
Participate in planned maintenance windows or after-hours activities when required.
Support disaster recovery exercises and provide clear communication on issue status and task progress.
Maintain accurate ticket updates, asset tracking records, and any required documentation for removable media (such as tapes) and on-site inventory.
Contribute to project-based assignments including environment buildouts, hardware refresh activities, and system deployments.
Requirements
Experience working in a data center, hardware support, or infrastructure operations role.
Understanding of server components, storage systems, cabling standards, and basic networking fundamentals.
Strong organizational skills with familiarity in inventory or asset management processes.
Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication with technical teams and stakeholders.
Willingness to support occasional after-hours work and meet on-site response expectations.
A professional, customer-focused approach and strong attention to detail.
Training and guidance will be provided as needed to ensure success.
