Animal Care Technician II

Job Summary
We are seeking an Animal Care Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Boston, MA.
As the Animal Care Technician II , you will observe, monitor and document the health and physical environment within the client’s animal facility. Perform animal care and husbandry, including receiving, cage wash duties and sanitation.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Review, comprehend and comply with all SLPs and training pertaining to laboratory animals and staff safety.
- Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations. Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; record animal health concerns per SLP and/or specified protocols.
- Manages own work to ensure that agreed targets are met in a timely manner and to agreed quality standards and welfare.
- Perform daily cage wash duties and sanitation. Follows sanitization schedules within vivarium.
- Provide basic start up and shut down procedures on equipment (cage washer, autoclave, water production).
- Perform quality assurance measures (temperature temps, watering testing, BIs, RODAC and/or ATP monitoring) and maintain such records.
- Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing including for any support areas.
- Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as needed.
- Dispose of animal carcasses following established procedures.
- Receive, inspect and house incoming animals.
- Use applicable software for the tracking of animals including census and generation of cage cards.
- Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
To qualify for the Animal Care Technician II position, candidates must possess one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences, or Life Sciences or similar field and 1 year related experience in a AALAC laboratory animal facility
OR
- Associates Degree in Animal Sciences, or Life Sciences or similar field and 1.5 years related experience in a AALAC laboratory animal facility
OR
- High School Diploma or GED and 2 years related experience in a AALAC laboratory animal facility
Certification
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level or above or ability to achieve an ALAT within 1 year.
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
