Job Description
RCH Solutions is seeking a Scientific Software Engineer with expertise in Python, C/C++, and Linux scripting who is passionate about applying their software development skills to tackle scientific challenges.

While Life Sciences is dynamic in focus and objectives, priorities for this role center on engineering and deploying software Scientific systems. Beyond delivering software assets, the engineer in this role will collaborate with end-users on requirements and coordinate with other technical team members.

Software engineering technologies include Python, C/C++, and scripting. Linux, hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), is the primary operating environment, but knowledge of Windows and Serverless hosting is also important. A demonstrated track record with Terraform and deploying software in a DevOps model is also key.

Engineering efforts involve developing new software components and working with Research scientists to evolve algorithms and prototypes to production-ready assets.

Specific focuses include:
  • Collaborating with RCH team members and customers to engineer and deliver best-in-class Scientific Computing solutions.
  • Delivering unmatched software engineering services to help drive scientific innovation.
  • Providing expert consulting (solutions consulting) in support of software modernization, software and data integrations, and optimizing software algorithms and components.
  • Develop and maintain scientific software applications using Python, C/C++, shell scripts, and likely other languages.
  • Implement algorithms and data analysis tools for Research projects.
  • Collaborate with researchers to translate scientific requirements into code.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant scientific field.
  • 5+ years’ experience developing large-scale software systems in Python and C/C++ in the Life Sciences realm.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and its scientific libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Pandas).
  • Experience using shell scripting, automation tools, configuration management, and DevOps CI/CD frameworks.
  • Orchestration via Terraform.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software development best practices.
  • A demonstrated track record of success of engineering software targeted for GCP and its platform services
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
RCH offers services and solutions tailored to the unique challenges of Advanced Computing in Life Sciences and utilizes teams with cross-functional IT skills to address these challenges. The ideal candidates for this role will possess broader skills than those listed in this job post, specifically including or being capable of quickly learning the following:
  • Platform development and administration skills in GCP.
  • Experience working in an Agile methodology, Agile certifications a plus.
  • Linux administration experience.
  • Provisioning automation technologies such as Chef, Ansible, Puppet, or others.
  • Experience with data science programming languages such as R.
  • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
