Established in 1867, HSDM was the first dental school in the United States to be connected with a university and coordinated with its medical school. HSDM is the only school within Harvard University that has its own clinical facility and provides direct patient care. The goal of HSDM is to continue setting a standard of excellence in the provision of oral health care and defining the future of interdisciplinary dental education, state-of-the-art clinical practice, and cutting-edge basic, clinical, and translational research. The Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity (OMII) is a growing academic unit committed to excellence in biomedical sciences integration, oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial pathology, periodontology, and translational research. The department maintains strong collaborative relationships across Harvard Medical School, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital (now MGB). The Department is seeking applications for the position of Instructor, Assistant or Associate Professor of Oral Medicine (OM) and/or Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (OMP). This is a full-time faculty appointment. The academic rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor and salary will be commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications. HSDM offers a unique interdisciplinary environment for teaching, research, service, and clinical activity, central to our mission at HSDM and the University.

The successful applicant will report directly to Department Chair and will provide educational leadership by serving as Course Director for discipline-specific courses, clinic-based teaching overseeing student assessment, and faculty calibration. Responsibilities also include administrative leadership as Discipline Director, contributing to accreditation documentation, on-going curriculum improvement, and coordinating clinical rotations with affiliated hospitals. The successful candidate will mentor and support independent and collaborative research activities associated with OM/OMP.

Clinically, the faculty member will supervise DMD students for OM/OMP in the clinic, support head and neck cancer screening and diagnostic services. An option to participate in patient care and practice is available.

The faculty member will be available for OM/OMP consultations in the teaching clinic for both DMD and graduate students and will have the opportunity to participate in clinical practice (20%). Clinical or bench research opportunities are available either through laboratories at HSDM or in collaboration with Harvard-affiliated institutions in the Longwood area. Other responsibilities include mentoring DMD and graduate students in research and serving on thesis advisory committees.

This position is foundational to sustaining the academic integrity of the DMD and AGE programs and ensures compliance with CODA standards, continuity of curricular leadership, accreditation readiness, and structured research mentorship. The faculty member will help maintain HSDM's academic mission in OM/OMP and support strategic growth in biomedical sciences and translational oral health research.

Assignment of these responsibilities is based on individual interests, the unique abilities of the individual, and the needs of the School.
