Overview

The Associate Director contributes to the Division of Philanthropy’s comprehensive fundraising efforts by presenting annual gift opportunities to a portfolio of 200+ prospects who have the capacity to give $25,000 or more. The position is responsible for 1.) the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and close gifts of $25,000+ in support of research, care, and Institute priorities and 2.) management of 3 frontline fundraisers and 3.) supporting Dana-Farber’s presence and volunteer coordination in key regional areas.

As an Annual Giving staff member and contributor to the Division’s ambitious goals, this position works reports to the Senior Director, Annual Giving and works directly with the Senior Director, Annual Giving and members of the Individual Giving, Planned Giving, Corporate Partnerships, Donor Experience & Engagement, The Jimmy Fund, and Prospect Research teams. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

The onboarding of this role will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, as well as hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role.

This position is considered remote, 0-1 days onsite at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in New England: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.

Responsibilities

Personal Solicitation

  • Meet quarterly and annual key performance indicators and fundraising goals as determined by the Assistant Vice President of Annual Giving; achieve revenue target for portfolio through management of a portfolio of 200+ annual donors who have the capacity to give $25,000 or more; conduct 6-8 donor visits per month.
  • Prepare and submit proposals tailored to donor individual interests and Institute priorities; conduct effective and strategic follow-up and meet deadlines, utilizing mail, phone, email, videoconferencing, or volunteers for cultivation and solicitation of prospects as appropriate.
  • Track prospect and donor activity in ClearView database; provide activity and revenue reports as requested.
  • Manage 3 frontline fundraisers at the Officer level.
  • Build and maintain strong, personal relationships with donors, volunteers, and prospects within targeted regional areas and assist in coordination of special events as needed. Travel as appropriate to meet with donors, volunteers, and prospects, supporting Dana-Farber’s presence in key regional areas such as Florida and New York.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise 3 Officers, Annual Giving .

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required plus 6-8 years of relevant work experience in a professional fundraising. Management experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Superior written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational capabilities, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks also required. Public speaking experience and effectiveness necessary along with the ability to communicate and work with people at all levels. The ability to translate complex medical and scientific concepts into persuasive donor reports, proposals and other communication. Must exercise significant judgment and confidentiality in working with a variety of constituencies, including donors, grateful patients, Trustees, volunteers, and staff at all levels, including senior faculty and staff. Ability to facilitate nuanced and complex gift conversations. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet all deadlines, and provide quality service. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and development databases. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills. Ability to work in a collegial manner with the Division of Philanthropy team in creating and implementing solicitation strategies. Willingness to travel as needed to donor meetings and events including travel to key regional areas.
