Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Departme nt Diving Coach , from July through August 2026, is responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive diving program that fosters a safe, positive, and engaging environment. This role focuses on teaching proper dive techniques, building diver confidence, and growing participation from beginner to competitive levels. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefits eligible position with the exception of those benefits required by law.

SCHEDULE: Mondays & Wednesday 6:00-7:00pm July 6th – August 27th

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Lead all diving lessons, practices, and dryland training sessions
  • Ensure proper use of diving boards, adherence to pool rules, and implementation of appropriate dryland drills
  • Enforce all safety protocols, including active supervision and reporting of incidents or concerns
  • Work collaboratively with the Aquatics Director to build and grow a structured learn-to-dive program that feeds into a competitive team
  • Maintain and oversee diving equipment to ensure safety and proper working condition
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and aquatics staff
  • Attend all required staff meetings and in-service trainings
  • Maintain accurate records, attendance, and program data
  • Provide advance notice if unable to work scheduled shifts and coordinate approved coverage
  • Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled sessions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a positive, safe, and fun environment while promoting skill development and a love for diving
  • Plan and lead diving practices for a range of ages and ability levels, emphasizing fundamentals, progression, and safety
  • Teach proper diving techniques, introduce new dives, and provide detailed feedback and performance analysis
  • Lead all diving lessons, practices, and dryland training sessions
  • Ensure proper use of diving boards, adherence to pool rules, and implementation of appropriate dryland drills
  • Enforce all safety protocols, including active supervision and reporting of incidents or concerns

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N / A

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on the pool deck for extended periods
  • Ability to lift or assist participants when needed
  • Exposure to pool chemicals and varying temperatures

The Phillips Academy Aquatics Cen ter features a 25-yard competition pool that serves as the home venue for Andover’s swimming, diving, and water polo programs. The pool can be configured with eight competition lanes or 13 practice lanes, providing flexibility for training, competition, instructional swim lessons, and recreational programming. It is also home to New England’s only full-sized high school water polo course.

This state-of-the-art facility includes adjustable starting blocks, two 1-meter diving boards with a dedicated diving area, an OMEGA Swiss Timing System for competitive events, and on-deck spectator seating for more than 300 guests. While the pool is utilized by Phillips Academy’s aquatics teams throughout the year, the Aquatics Center is expanding its offerings to include community recreation programs, diving instruction, lifeguard certification courses, competitive swim training, and swim lessons for participants of all ages and abilities.
