Automation Engineer
Job Title: Automation EngineerLocation: Framingham, MAAbout the JobKey Responsibilities may differ among employees with same job title and may change over time in accordance with business needs.This position is responsible for providing automation expertise for small-to-medium projects. These projects include continuous improvement, retrofit, and large capital investments to optimize manufacturing and supporting operations. This person will design, architect, troubleshoot, and deliver future enhancements for automation related systems.The Automation Engineer will be responsible for using expertise to design innovative solutions. These solutions span the areas of automation systems, data historians, IoT devices, etc. with a key focus on pushing new boundaries of Digital 4.0. The person will be responsible for maintaining and providing technical support, ensuring availability of the automation systems for multiple manufacturing facilities. Together, we chase the miracles of science to improve lives.Main ResponsibilitiesLeadership:Providing leadership and direction to junior team members while embodying the principles of the Sanofi Global Leadership ModelLeading automation related projectsManaging contractors for staff augmentation or project rolesEnsuring timely issue escalation to senior management and cross-functional support teamsPartnering with support teams i.e., Manufacturing, Quality, etc to ensure deliverables are completed to meet to production schedulesMentoring junior automation engineers to ensure that the team applies compliant, efficient solutions to projectsAutomation:Provide technical solutions to a wide range of process automation related design challenges. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectivesResponsible for ensuring process equipment automation are available to support operations schedule requirementsManaging medium-to-large departmental projects and ensuring that the appropriate controls, approvals, and validation requirements are implementedIntegrate systems and data from a variety of skidded systems, analytical equipment, and process/building control systemsDeveloping robust solutions that have minimal downtime and ensure data integrityLead development of automation standardsTraining /Deviations /Compliance/Safety:Complying with Sanofi requirements for trainingEnsuring Inspection Readiness of assigned areasOverseeing completion of investigations and deviationsEnsuring all assigned deviations and CAPA’s are closed in a timely mannerEnsuring that Automation documentation is compliant and inspection readyParticipating in inspections conducted by external regulatorsComplying with requirements from Genzyme’s Safety Program including Health and Safety regulations and OSHA requirementsContinuous Improvement:Working collaboratively with inter-department and cross-functional teams to lead necessary changes in a timely and productive mannerPartnering with Manufacturing to troubleshoot and drive resolution of process issues and proactively driving projects to improve manufacturing processPartnering with Operational Excellence to drive process improvements through Kaizens, Kanban, 5S and VSMLeadership Qualifications:This position does not have any direct reports but might have direct reports of more junior engineers in the futureAbout YouBasic QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or any technological field and 5+ years of experienceOR Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experienceHands-on programming experience with real-time manufacturing automation and control systems (such as DeltaV, PLCs, PI, Werum PAS-X, etc.)Hands-on technical experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis for manufacturing control systems, specifically DeltaVHands-on technical experience with providing support for automated manufacturing operations, specifically DeltaVDemonstrated knowledge of bus technologies and InstrumentationDemonstrated knowledge of validation requirements for control systems in CGMP and/or ASTM environmentsExperience with multiple computerized systems (Ignition, Werum PAS-X, PI, etc.)Experience with SCADA/PLC systems such as Rockwell Factory Talk/RSLogix, HoneywellUnderstanding of network infrastructureExperience with systems/network/validation, preferable in the chemical, pharmaceutical, foods, or other process industries is preferredExperienced in establishment of safe practices in a cGMP environment.Proficient working with computer programs/applications such as Windows, VBA, MS Office applications, etc.Proven technical and analytical skills to quickly resolve automation system issuesExperience delivering solutions based on Digital 4.0Experience with SaaS solutionsExperience with IoT solution and edge devicesSpecial Working Conditions:Required manufacturing operations support on a rotating “on call” 24/7 basisRequires working in an industrial manufacturing environment including gowningWhy choose us?
