PRINCIPAL Our Lady of the Angels SchoolRoman Catholic Diocese of WorcesterWorcester, Massachusetts Job Description: Our Lady of the Angels School is seeking a Principal to serve as the spiritual, educational, and administrative leader of its preschool through eighth grade program. The Principal is the primary agent for creating an environment that fosters Catholic faith formation, academic excellence, and community involvement. The Principal is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere for all members of the school community (faculty, staff, students, parents, and donors) and a climate that encourages the engagement of each student in the learning process. The Principal directs all phases of the schools operations including personnel matters, educational programming, budgeting, facilities operations, and the creation of a positive and supportive school culture. Applicants should be practicing Catholics fully committed to the doctrine of the Church and to missionary discipleship. Applicants must also have teaching and/or administrative experience and a broad understanding of the needs of a wide range of grade levels within a Catholic school setting. The individual must demonstrate adaptive leadership and good communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and parents. The ideal candidate must be a professional who can multi-task and who is ready to work with the pastor of Our Lady of the Angels to implement a vision for the growth of the school, thereby securing its future. The ideal candidate should also be ready to lead the community through the accreditation process with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The Principal reports directly to the Pastor of Our Lady of the Angels. About Our Lady of the Angels School Our Lady of the Angels School currently serves 145 students. The school was founded in 1947 under the care of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The campus includes the main classroom building (grades 1-8), along with a separate facility for preschool and kindergarten and easy access to Our Lady of the Angels Church. In addition to the Principal, staffing consists of 15 classroom teachers (full-time & part-time), including art, music, Spanish, technology, and physical education. Additional staff include an Administrative Assistant and Business Manager. - Provides visible leadership within the school community and creates an inviting, welcoming, and nurturing learning environment that reflects the ardent Catholic identity of the school
- Ensures that the daily experience of students consistently reflects the Catholic mission of the school and is child-centered, positive, and safe
- Creates an atmosphere with faculty, staff, and parents that establishes a culture of kindness, fosters a love of learning among students, and encourages the development of each student to his or her full potential
- Maintains a rigorous educational program that meets the tradition of excellence and incorporates well-designed curriculum, engaging lesson content, best teaching practices, and the effective integration of technology
- Supervises and evaluates professional teaching staff, holding them to high expectations through reflective practice
- Coordinates professional development for faculty that advances the educational and spiritual goals of the school
- Prepares and monitors the school budget in collaboration with the Business Manager, Pastor and Joint School and Parish Finance Council, and possesses a working knowledge of financial statements and generally accepted business practices and processes
- Manages and oversees the schools web-based management system to ensure proper record keeping of bills, tuition payments, financial aid, student progress reporting, school calendar, etc.
- Strengthens admissions and retention through marketing and public relations strategies and solicits donations to benefit financial aid and school enrichment
- Demonstrates excellent time-management and organizational skills and the ability to delegate and accomplish tasks through coordination and facilitation
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills and well-developed oral and written communication skills
- Communicates with the parent community through regular updates utilizing the school website, emails, parent portal, and telephone calls
- Responds to parent communications by open availability for meetings as well as timely replies to emails and telephone calls
- Works collaboratively with the OLA Parent-Teacher Organization and actively supports their programs and activities.
- Practicing Catholic living out Missionary Discipleship
- At least 5 years relevant teaching/administrative experience, preferably at the elementary and/or middle school level
- Masters degree in Education
- Current Massachusetts licensure as a school principal preferred
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
