The Young-Pearse Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our pioneering research efforts in the field of neurological diseases. Our lab's work revolves around understanding the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, neurodevelopmental disorders and mental illness.
We are looking for a Research Administrative Assistant, who will be the central administrator for the Lab and its large portfolio of grants and sponsored projects. This individual will work directly with the PI Dr. Young-Pearse, and will be the key link among lab members, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard University and other internal and external collaborating entities. The candidate will engage in a variety of activities that vary day-to-day and month-to-month, as outlined below.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works independently to provide administrative assistance to PI as required, including, but not limited to: editing of grant proposals and manuscripts; scheduling and managing logistics, preparation of materials and processing reimbursements for meetings, conferences and travel.
- Schedule and help set the agenda for lab meetings. Oversee the planning of lab-hosted symposia and other events.
- Supervises aspects of the operation of the research laboratory, including ordering of supplies, coordinating with external companies regarding purchases of new equipment and service contracts.
- Establishes and maintains an organizational structure of materials necessary for scientific research (for example, freezer stocks and organization of research materials).
- Assist in planning and overseeing event organization and coordination including but not limited to: working with facilities, catering, ensuring speaker preparation, and reimbursements for meetings.
- Aid in the management of lab website
- Oversee onboarding and maintenance of credentials for all lab personnel.
- Responsible for the coordination of all regulatory, compliance, and safety activities for the lab
- Will orient and train new staff members.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: BS or BA
1 year of administrative experience
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:- Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize in order to meet deadlines.
- Interest in contributing to the success of a biomedical research lab
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to make independent, effective decisions in appropriate situations.
- Excellent organizational skills
- High level of computer literacy including competency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Google Suite of tools
- Possess a high level of initiative and the ability to work independently and with teams
- Be innovative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
