This role centers equity, collaboration, and storytelling to help shape a more just and affordable MetroWest. This is not a social work or direct services position working with families

Reports to: Executive Director

Family Promise Metrowest is a regional nonprofit organization providing a coordinated community response to family homelessness. Through shelter, transitional housing, prevention, and diversion services, we support families with children in achieving stable housing and sustainable employment.

Our work is grounded in addressing the root causes of poverty and housing insecurity. We are a dedicated, inclusive, and values-driven team committed to dignity, equity, and respect for all people, communities, and cultures.

Position Summary

The Housing Equity Advocate plays a vital role in advancing housing equity across the MetroWest region. This position blends research, relationship-building, advocacy, and strategic communications to strengthen community awareness, influence policy, and mobilize partners around affordable housing and family homelessness.

Working closely with the Advancement Team and Executive Director, the Advocate will lead collaborative efforts to research housing challenges, elevate community voices, refine organizational messaging, and expand FPM’s visibility and impact.

This is an ideal role for a relationship-oriented, systems-minded professional who is energized by partnership, storytelling, and social change.

Key Responsibilities:

· Identify trends to inform advocacy strategies, policy recommendations, and FPM’s Strategic Plan.

· Research and assess local housing policies, zoning regulations, and demographic trends.

· Collaborate with the Advancement Team and Executive Director to produce reports, infographics, and opinion pieces for policymakers, funders, and the public.

Community Outreach, Collaboration, and Networking

· Convene and facilitate community meetings, forums, and workshops on housing equity and family homelessness.

· Build and sustain relationships with municipal leaders, nonprofits, faith communities, advocacy groups, and grassroots organizations.

· Represent FPM in coalitions and regional networks focused on housing justice and community development.

· Partner with allied movements to address intersectional issues and strengthen collective advocacy.

· Serve as a connector between families, service providers, policymakers, and community stakeholders.

Strategic Communications and Public Engagement

· Lead planning and production of the bi-weekly Starlights newsletter, annual report, and email communications.

· Oversee content strategy for digital platforms, including website and social media.

· Develop compelling, mission-driven messaging that increases public understanding of housing instability and family homelessness.

· Collaborate with the Executive Director, Community Engagement Coordinator, and Special Events Coordinator to align communications with fundraising, advocacy, and community outreach goals.

· Support storytelling efforts that elevate lived experience and community voices.

Monitoring, Learning, and Impact Development

· Gather feedback from partners and community members to strengthen programs and advocacy efforts.

· Adapt strategies in response to emerging housing trends and community needs.

· Document best practices and develop replicable models for housing advocacy across FPM’s service areas.

· Contribute to organizational learning and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Attributes

· Demonstrated commitment to housing justice, equity, and social impact.

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build authentic relationships across diverse communities.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Experience with data analysis, policy research, advocacy, or community organizing.

· Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities.

· Collaborative, adaptable, and solutions-oriented.

· Comfort working in both community-based and professional settings.

Compensation and Benefits

· Salary: $62,000–$66,000, commensurate with qualifications

· Status: Full-time, exempt, at-will

· Schedule: Hybrid work schedule available; some evening and weekend hours required

· Position is grant funded through June of 2027

Benefits Include:

  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid Sick Leave
