Preference will be given to individuals who have a terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities (Ph.D., Ed.D, etc.), extensive leadership experience in academia, a proven history of service and who models scholarly productivity, excellent teaching, and the ability to maintain and enhance our culture. This position, like all DPT positions in the School of Medicine, is a non-tenured track faculty position with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences which is housed within the Tufts University School of Medicine. The candidate should be licensed in their state of residence and eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.

1. Earned terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities

2. Senior faculty rank (Associate Professor or higher), with experience consistent with Tufts University system for designated faculty rank

3. A minimum of 6 years of full time higher education experience and 3 years in a leadership role

4. Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapist education

5. Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy

6. Licensed in their state of residence and eligible for licensure in Massachusetts

7. Active in clinical practice, especially as applicable to clinical education

8. Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

Description:

The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment at the level of Associate, or Professor to serve as the Program Director for the hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. This accelerated 7 semester DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities which allows the faculty member to live remote to the School of Medicine campus. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in the Boston area for designated time periods each semester. Collaboration and coordination with Tufts Seattle and Tufts Phoenix DPT Programs and the School of Medicine is required. The successful faculty candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program, as well as develop a scholarly agenda and participate in community and professional service appropriate to a university faculty member. Combinations of areas of clinical expertise are welcome, and we encourage interdisciplinary and diverse perspectives.

A. Administrative Responsibilities

1. Establish and maintain program accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Overall responsible for coordinating the Program's compliance with all expected standards and rules.

a. Coordinate timely submission of required fees and documentation, including reports of graduation rates, performance on state licensing exams and graduation rates, to the appropriate accreditation bodies.

b. Notify accrediting bodies about expected or unexpected substantive changes within the program and of any change in institutional accreditation status or legal authority to provide post-secondary education.

c. Assure access to applicable standards to all members of the faculty and establish an expectation for compliance.

d. Delegate individuals to coordinate certain portions of requirements on behalf of the faculty.

e. Maintain accurate information on the program website that is easily accessible to the public regarding accreditation status and current student achievement measures.

f. Follow policies and procedures of CAPTE as outlined in The CAPTE Rules of Practice and Procedure.

g. Develop and maintain a contemporary and evidence-based Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum that meets accreditation standards and achieves program goals and expected outcomes

h. Develop, maintain, and uphold regulations, policies and procedures that meet accreditation standards and achieve program goals and expected outcomes

2. Provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the DPT Program in collaboration with Tufts other DPT programs and the School of Medicine

3. Provide faculty and staff with mentorship and regular evaluations, to include an organized professional development plan in the areas of teaching, research, leadership, and service

4. Plan and administrate the DPT Program pro forma, annual budget, and financial resources to support the current and anticipated program needs, to include academic and clinical education, faculty, facilities, and equipment needs

5. In collaboration with Tufts DPT programs, lead strategic planning activities for the Tufts DPT - Boston Program.

6. Plan and conduct Tufts DPT-Boston Program faculty meetings

7. Recruit faculty and staff for Tufts DPT-Boston Program.

8. Provide recommendations on continued employment and promotion of faculty in accordance with the Tufts University System for Faculty Rank

9. Serve on executive, planning, and standing committees as directed by the Dean.

10. Represent the DPT-Boston Program to Tufts University, the community, and the profession of physical therapy

11. Attend Tufts University activities as designated.

12. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.

B. Teaching and Education Responsibilities

1. The Program Director of the DPT Program will teach courses as agreed upon with the Chair and in keeping with effective delivery of the curriculum.
