The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE) in the School of Engineering at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time teaching position as an Assistant Teaching Professor. The primary responsibility for the position is teaching and curriculum development for the department's undergraduate and graduate programs. The position will begin in the Spring semester of 2026.

The department seeks exceptional candidates with strong foundational knowledge in any area of Chemical Engineering and a demonstrated commitment to teaching. We welcome candidates with a variety of life experiences and perspectives that will positively contribute to the Tufts ChBE Department and broader university community. Ideal candidates are expected to support high-quality teaching through delivery of lectures and lab exercises using evidence-based pedagogical practices based on course descriptions, facilitate collaborative learning experiences, promptly develop, review, and grade assignments while offering constructive feedback and guidance, maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture utilizing a variety of means such as consistent communication with students regarding their performance.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track position. The initial appointment term will be for two years with the possibility of renewal contingent on annual performance review results.

The Tufts School of Engineering is in the midst of a period of exciting growth that has seen the recruitment of outstanding new faculty, a quadrupling of funded research over the last ten years, the addition of new buildings and laboratory space, and major curricular initiatives at both the undergraduate and graduate levels - done in an environment where our community of scholars and practitioners feel welcomed and supported in their academic endeavors.

Qualifications:

A B.S. degree in chemical engineering and a Ph. D. degree in chemical engineering or related field is required by the appointment start date. The ideal candidate will possess: (i) a track record of high quality instruction at the university level appropriate to the level of appointment and strong commitment to teaching excellence and mentoring, (ii) the ability to communicate and work productively with students, faculty and staff, and (iii) an interest in developing innovative ways to teaching chemical engineering topics, and in creating new curricular materials and pedagogical approaches aligned with the current trends in engineering education.

The statement on teaching philosophy and interests should summarize past instructional and mentorship expertise, pedagogical philosophy, plans for teaching existing and proposed courses, and strategies for mentoring diverse groups of undergraduate and graduate students.
