Medical Assistant
Job Summary
The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential functions include assisting junior medical assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helping facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training. This includes showing patients to examination rooms, preparing necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interviewing patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record. Additionally, the role involves explaining treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education. Performing general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach is also part of the job. Collecting blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logging them, and preparing them for testing; performing phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated. Maintaining inventory of immunizations and checking expiration dates. Providing immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or three years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider. The role is also responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred.

Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred
Experience: Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position. The ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments. Accuracy and attention to detail. Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations. Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens. Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Managing one's own time and the time of others.
