Emergency Department Recovery Coach (Full‑Time, 30 hrs/week)

Location: Greenfield, MA
Compensation: $23–$25/hour, non‑exempt
Reports to: Program Director

The RECOVER Project, a program of the Western Massachusetts Training Consortium, is seeking a highly skilled, experienced Emergency Department Recovery Coach to support the continued implementation and stabilization of its ED‑based peer recovery coaching program at Bay E state Franklin Medical Center.

This position provides peer‑based, non‑clinical recovery support to individuals presenting in the Emergency Department with substance‑related needs and requires strong professional judgment, the ability to work independently, and comfort operating in a fast‑paced medical environment. In addition to direct recovery coaching, this role plays a key part in building trust, clarifying the peer role, and supporting long‑term integration of recovery coaching within the ED.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one‑to‑one recovery coaching in the Emergency Department using harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and recovery‑oriented practices
  • Meet individuals where they are, support self‑defined goals, and facilitate connections to appropriate community‑based supports
  • Work independently within the ED while maintaining clear communication and collaboration with medical, nursing, and social work staff
  • Serve as a consistent, professional peer presence that helps strengthen understanding of peer recovery support within a clinical setting
  • Support the ongoing development, refinement, and stabilization of a newly implemented ED recovery coaching program
  • Participate in meetings, consultation, and collaboration with RECOVER Project leadership and hospital partners
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in compliance with HIPAA, hospital protocols, and RECOVER Project standards

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years lived experience in recovery
  • Completion of CCAR Recovery Coach Academy and Ethical Considerations
  • CARC certification or active progress toward certification
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in complex systems
  • Experience working in hospital or emergency department settings
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills across peer and clinical disciplines
  • Commitment to peer values, trauma‑informed care, harm reduction, equity, and social justice
  • Experience supporting new or evolving programs; experience serving as a lead, mentor, or informal guide strongly preferred
